Extraordinary talent, but he didn't have a chance to meet top opposition and, thus, we will never know his true ability. Reminds me a lot of Larry Holmes in that sense. No one ever took him to war. Perhaps no one could have. Like it or not, that's how we judge fighters. Ali was just as talented, but he stood up against guys who were deemed better and *still* beat them. No one ever thought Roy was significantly challenged. He was a beautiful specimen, but untried. That's the long and short of it.

You think Jones-Toney was a "close fight". You're a ****ing idiot.

And Toney was at his absolute peak.

headbanger, i'm glad you're sticking with your trend of being completely unobjective and biased. this is a great forum to learn about boxing and i suggest you stick around and learn some more. you don't know a lot of roy jones, a lot of people don't and seeing as you've obviously never watched one of his fights, that's a good place to start.

BTW: he did fight a cop, i'll freely admit that even tell you his name since you've never bothered researched, referring to him as "civil servant". it was one silly, useless fight and he destroyed the guy and moved on. i suggest you do the same

The most athletically gifted fighter of all-time, 4 weight champion, shoe-in hall of famer, the scary thing is he could have went down as possibly the greatest fighter ever had some fights come through in his career, even though people forget he beat 15 world champions and thats more than any active world champion today.

How is that relevant to my statement, I never said he was.
Reading isn't your strongest point is it? I hope not.

Heard of a guy called Lennox Lewis? Had a little fight back in 99' that would be enough to put ANY British boxer off going to the States for a while.

99, Lewis vs Holyfield. - Joe watched this fight and was quoted at being in 'disbelief' at the decision. Infact I'll dig up a quote if I've got time were Joe himself said something like "I've worked too hard to let something like that happen to me".

But anyways this thread isn't about Joe.
