I'm pretty confident that anybody in the top 10 of every weight-class past flyweight, could take the UFC 1-6 belts via knowing what the hell to do in an MMA match.

Royce was an incredibly uni-dimensional WW, and was never the best BJJ guy (His BJJ tournament-record isn't exactly spectacular)

He was a fighter. Considering he was a wrestler and learned all his skills when MMA wasn't popular he just loved to fight.

So Cruz, Faber, and Benson beat the likes of Shamrock, Goodridge, Severn, Taktarov, Mezger, and even Tank eh...

Seriously as relatively unskilled as all round MMA fighters these guys were size DOES matter and these guys were all skilled enough in one aspect or another to win those fights against anyone they outweighed as they were all north of the 200lbs mark. Id say if you look at WW top 10 and above then Id agree with that statement, these guys have the degree of skill needed to overcome the size difference. They'd probably beat the Hackneys and Kimo's of the era though

MMA has 'evolved' but not too the point where todays guys can give up at least 50 lbs and still beat the better fighters of that era. Not one of the top 10 guys beneath WW get's past PRIME Shamrock, not a single one

Id love to see Dominick v Yarborough though

Thinking about it I think the best guy south of 170 to take UFC 1-6 would be Nate Diaz. He's not a power puncher so he'd be with fighting with no gloves well with out too much danger of breaking his hands against bigger guys skulls and also works the body with punches well. And he has great jits with very long and slim legs so I can envision him slipping on a triangle on monsters like Severn & Shammy when he does get taken down in a similar vein to Royce. He has cardio for days and is as tough as old boots, and id think he'd relish fighting in the days where the clock counted up not down

Maybe Grey too as he's a huge LW...Anyway....way off topic...

    Frye could beat Brock Lesnar

He is being extrmely underrated here.

  8. Classic meat head. Stand over type. Fearless. Physical beast lacking against better opponents because of limited skill.

I didn't enjoy seeing him get ktfo inthat street fight video though

Physically he was never a beast. Don never weighed no more than 220 if that. He was a very good amateur Olympic calibre wrestler though and IIRC was coached by Severn. He also fought in the K-1 a few times as he some boxing background. Bottom line is he was an excellent fighter for his time.

No. Haggar came long before Frye. I used to smash the **** out of Final Fight at the Arcades back in the early 90's.

People who think he was an unskilled bum are certainly underrating him......but Lesnar was just too big to him, IMO.

Him and Guy were my favourite characters. Never liked Cody. But nothing was better than Hagger pile driving the **** out of someone. Great times. :happy
