He was a boxer-puncher in the lighter weights. he had no problem fighting in the pocket and trading with his opposition, even if he would get nailed flush with some shots coming back at him.

At the higher weights, he's the epitome of a "master boxer," also a slickster with ATG defense.

Since Mayweather is so versatile and can adapt mid-fight to any style thrown at him, I don't think it's fair to categorize him in a specific manner. But master-boxer is probably the best term for him, besides All Time Great.

To be honest I find his style to be similar to a scared little girl guide.
Very reluctant to actually FIGHT anyone but when forced into the ring he runs hides holds foream thrusts etc. All the time knowing he cannot lose because he only fights in his own backyard

Floyd is basically a highly skilled counter-puncher with a great defense.

That means he's not easily to beat.

But he tends to avoid the Pac type fighter, who will try and overwhelm his defense with high volume punchers that have power. Since we haven't seen Floyd actually have to deal with this style we don't know how good he would be at it. Some say he has a great chin, I say it's never really been tested.

Some say he can outbox someone like Pac, I say maybe he can (especially now compared to say 5 years ago), but he'd have to take more risk than he's use to and commit more to his punches. Essentially he'd have to be willing to hurt Pac to slow him down and make him hesitant, but in trying to do so, he has to be realise he to is likely going to get hit.

Floyd doesn't really like getting hit, so he avoids any fighter who may actually hurt him.

Some posters will say well Cotto could hurt him, or Hatton, or ODL or SSM, but in reality the last two were way past prime and the first two aren't all that highly skilled.

So Floyd is an illusion, he wants you to think he's taking on the best fighters out there, but in reality he's selecting his opponents very carefully.

To a lesser extent SRL did some of the same things. He would use his marketing power to dictate terms, such as when a rematch would take place against Duran and what size the ring would be against Hagler and how many rounds they would fight. Floyd took that formula and perfected it and now you either fight under his terms or there's no fight.

    he's a boxer/counter puncher.

he rarely leads...although he can when he has too.

he's more prone to make his opponents miss and make them pay by setting traps.

the more aggressive the opponent...the better he shines.

he doesn't take many risks. very calculated in his approach. little by little he will take things away from an opponent.

defensively, he gives u a few different looks but mainly works off the shoulder roll.

offensively, he has a beautiful hook and a solid right hand.

since his pops has been back in his camp he's gone back to using lateral movement which i thought was gone after the cotto fight.

All true, but Floyd certainly isn't a fighter who's going to overwhelm you either with power or with combinations. That said, he throws punches hard enough to get the respect of most fighters he faces and a fighter who hopes to beat Floyd would have to be willing to go out on his shield to do so.

Great insult. You must teach those bullies in your middle school a lesson with comebacks like that.
