How would you feel about Bute if he doesn't do his utmost to fight Kessler in 2009?

Would Andrade and someone at least as good as Stieglitz be satisfactory for this year?

Yes, it will be a good start. Fight good names and go up the ranks

Bute should be working to get this fight done THIS YEAR...no need to wait..If he's not ready he should'nt have that belt..very simple by years end he should be in the ring with Kessler...No more cannon fodder for Bute he's a champion so it's time to act like one

I don't understand this argument: "Bute shouldn't have the belt unless he is ready to fight everyone"...well, he WON the belt by beating Bika and Berrio. What would you want him to do? To say: here, have it back, I feel I am not ready to beat Kessler yet? He never said he wouldn't fight Kessler; he just said he didn't feel ready yet to make the fight competitive. It's not like he would drop the belt rather than face Kessler if Kessler were his mandatory!

Damn, instead of appreciating his honesty, some here berate him for not talking crap about how much better than everyone else he is!:patsch

Bute is a champion yes. But he's still a work in progress also. Just becuse he has a title dosen't mean he should fight everyone out there. He's only got 20 odd fights to his name and got a clever management team behind him that was able to secure him a title shot. Would everyone be clamouring for him to fight Kessler if he didn't hold the IBF? I think not. In fact, if Bute wasn't the IBF champ and Kessler called him out, some people on here woud probably criticise MK for his choice of opponent.

Bute hasn't become a master boxer by virtue of holding an alphabet strap. He's still more or less a prospect and to put him in with Kessler now could seriously damage his confidence and future career. Joppy is a terrible choice of opponent. But Andrade and Tsypko/Stieglitz(sp?) would round off a decent year for Bute's first year as champ. 2009 could be the year were he fights Mikkel and maybe others like Inkin/Froch/Green/Lacy etc etc.

Bute is the IBF Champ and Kesller is not even ranked by the IBF so why will you people expect Bute to go all out to fight Kesller? Especially now that he has just come from a loss?

If your good enough to win the world title, you should in theory be ready to face the best in the division...im not saying it is wrong of him to have a few easy defences before facing someone like Kessler, it just goes to show that being World champion doesnt make you as good a fighter as it did in the past, its sad more than anything.

I think itll be easier if we all ignore Bute's world champion claim as he clearly isnt ready for it...

I am sorry, but I just don't get that!

Ignore Bute's claim to be a World Champion? :huh Why? Is he saying something controversial when he says he is the IBF title holder? He clearly feels he isn't ready for Joe and Mikkel - who are elite and borderline elite, respectively! He never said he wasn't ready for winner between Froch v. Inkin, or anyone else at SMW, for example...

The fact that he would rather not face Kessler NOW, when he doesn't have to does not mean he is not worthy of the IBF strap he has won; it means he is intelligent enough to know what's what and hungry enough to want to improve and develop, to be a better boxer in the future! (Although you wouldn't know it by looking at Joppy as a choice of opponent...!)

Whatever colour the belt is, he is world champion, he'll be introduced as world champion and paid like a world champion. I know alphabet orgs complicate things but when a 'world' champion himself says he isnt ready to be the best in the World, which is essentially what the title 'World champion' means, then i think his claim at world champ, for the time being atleast, should be ignored.

Im not saying he isnt IBF champ, he did win the IBF title and im not calling him a liar. The man has talent, but as he says he isnt ready for the best fighters in World, his championship success should be overlooked, because like he said, he isnt ready for it.

Im agreeing with him, whats your problem?

His championship success should be ignored because he isn't ready to fight the best? Huh?:huh Do you mean we should pretend he didn't beat Bika and Berrio because he isn't ready to fight Kessler? :nut

Mate, lets just make things easier. Lets call him a solid contender, that what beating Berrio really means.

We have a champ, Bute is an up and coming contender - who isnt ready for his shot yet...

So, who will be "The Champ" once Joe vacates? And if Bute is an "up and coming/solid contender", what is Kessler, what is Mundine and what will be the WBC Champ (winner of Frch v. Inkin)?
