How would you feel about Mikkel Kessler if after round after round of domination by Calzaghe, he (NMikkel) is either pulled out by his corner, so that he doesn't end up like Lacy, doesn't stand up when the bell rings at the beginning of the round, or, simply, quits, saying he has had enough, before the ref stops it? How would you, (as a fan of Mikkel), feel, if this scenario unfolded before your eyes? And I am not saying it will...but IF?
Pretty bad. Calzaghe detractors will have even more ammunition when they make their case that he has only fought tomato cans and sup-par opposition. They won't attribute the stoppage to Calzaghe's boxing ability, but rather, Kessler's weakness. It's Roy Jones Jr syndome all over again with people needing to see him lose and lose badly before they can feel better about their mediocre lives and lack of personal achievement.
I am not saying that it is likely that it would happen...but if, for some reason, it did happen, how would you feel?
I know what you mean...but to me, this would be a feather in Calzaghe's cap, rather than wind under his dretractos' wings...
You are not engaging with my question, I feel. I am not saying it won't happen, but if it did, how would you feel about Kessler? How would you feel that instead of taking a lacying, he quits, figuring that he can come back after JC retires and dominate the division, whereas if he gets hurt some more, he might not be the same fighter again?
I'd be sad for Kessler who is a decent guy, but if he just isn't up to the standard required and this happens, he doesn't have the heart to rise to the very top. The guts Lacy showed was fantastic, despite getting a pasting round after round - similar to the Brewer fight. The yank boxers seem to stick around even though they're chasing a pretty lost caused, they still want to be standing at the final bell. This is why a lot of Joe's detractors are from the US. A lot of the TKOs have come where boxers have pretty much shut up shop. If your Kessler scenario happens, Calzaghe will get lots of credit from reasonable people. To make a boxer quit, is pretty telling, hurtful. But his win will be diminished by some who will say that he fought Kessler to avoid Pavlik. Kessler - on the other hand, may come again... but will forever be remembered as the 'guy who quit against Calzaghe'
It's not possible to happen, never ever...so no one can make up his mind about it because it's impossible...
I certainly cant see kessler quitting or pulling out. If that happens? It will speak high volumes about Cal. I think that Lacy took a beating and Kessler would be likely to do the same, if Calzaghe has that much advantage. We shall see soon enough:good
Surprised. Neither guy is a huge hitter but both have top handspeed. I just think Calzaghe throws his hands out there more often which is why I have him winning this fight by UD.
