It was before. Danny was pretty **** leading into the Tyson fight, he sleep walked himself into a loss against Sprott not long before it.

I agree that the Vitali fight was such a brutal beating, his career was effectively finished that night. His punch resistance was never the same again. Brave brave performance, but a career ender!!

Danny williams always frustated me, When he was on form he looked just as good as any of the worlds top ten , then sometimes he just looked terrible. After the tyson win i thought he should have went for Ruiz which i believe was a winable fight for him plus ruiz wouldve come over here to fight as he wasnt a big draw in the states so for the right money he defo wouldve came. If he fought ruiz and won then he could have had a couple of defences raking in the money before taking on either brewster ( wbo ) byrd (ibf) in a unification fight then 2 or 3 more fights and then vitali for a mega bucks fight.

  4. Financially he probably got more for facing Vitali straight away after the Tyson win than he would have done had he won a significant alphabet belt and defended it a couple of times before fight VK.

Don't forget that within, if my memory serves me correct, a year Tyson had had that shambolic, disgraceful defeat to Kevin McBride so anything that Danny's victory over him could have brought to the negoiation table when fighting Vitali would have been lost by then.

The Klitschko vs Williams fight was, remember, on PPV in the UK so he would have made a decent amount out of it so, in hindsight, it was great sense of business putting him straight in.

At the time I thought they were crazy to fight Klitsckho and should have gone after Holyfield but people in this thread have convinced me that they were probably right to take the money against the best guy with the chance he may get another shot after

No I think he was right to go for Klitschko while the iron was hot. It already had the intrigue with Vitali not long coming of his war with Lewis which of course made the fight PPV worthy. The other title holders meant nothing to British public. Plus he possibly expected a rematch with Tyson somewhere down the line win or lose against Vitali.

I remember that fight, what a beating. VK was too good and Danny too brave.
