I know Ali had a great all round game, but how does he rate in the power stakes?
I remember Eddie Futch dismissing Ali's power due to the fact that he couldn't floor Frazier or Norton over so many rounds.

On the other hand, he stopped Bonavena and Foreman, so he must have had some pop!

So, out of 10, rate his power. I'll say 7.

I think he was able to maximize his power by hitting opponents with shots they couldnt see comming. With that being said, I think his power was mediocre, especially for a guy 6 foot 3.

He hit hard enough and ,more importantly often enough to stop big young heavyweights.Seven seems about right.

Above average. When he sat down on his shots, he could gain most anyone's respect.

Ali was rather limited in terms of attack. He seldom used an uppercut, hook or body attack. But his cross was an under rated power punch that rocked Sonny Liston, KO’d Foreman, and eventually stopped Frazier.

Down on point’s vs. Lyle, Ali’s right cross bailed him out.

I’d say it was about a 6.5 out of 10, but Ali was had speed and counter punching skills that often caught his opponents by surprise.

His punching power was quite mediocre really. Everybody knew this and he admitted it himself. Ali was a volume attrition puncher not a 1 punch KO artist.

Out of 10 I would rate his power at about 5.

He showed very good power in the Cleveland Williams fight. It's a myth that when he came back he hit harder.

5 out of 10. However his accuracy and timing were both 10 so he's a 7.5 puncher on the Dragon scale.

His style reduced the power in his shots. If he fought flat footed im sure it would be a different story.

Plus , guys back then were more durable then today. Even on his toes id say he could knock out somebody like Wlad Klitschko.

I'd say that is fair. 6.5-7 is about right. He could sting you with his power and then overwhelm with his speed
