A fighter who was never going to be the best. Maybe similar to fighters like Fernando Vargas, or Francisco Vargas. Good enough to be elite, but lacked that extra umpf to be at the very top.

Bobby Chacon was a B+ level fighter with an A+ level heart so I gave him an A-.

The younger Schoolboy had just about all the skills. He had quick hands and good power. He was never a defensive wizard but he was solid. Unfortunately, he enjoyed life in some ways that were not good for his career. The older Chacon was all heart and not much else. He was Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti but with more skill.

I truly hope Bobby Chacon is resting in peace.

He was livin la vida loca whilst Mr Tapia was still in middle school.

    Very tragic life.

In another era he would have ran out of room in his trophy room for trinkets.
The bloke had no quit in him.

My second-favorite fighter. All action, to the point of too little regard for his own health and well-being.

Later on, he relied too heavily on his powerful right hand, but before then offered more movement and a good jab used to set other stuff up.

Unlike the disciplined Sanchez, Bobby preferred to NOT train where possible. It cost him here and there but when he came in focused and ready, he was quick, powerful, dynamic and incredibly exciting. Honestly speaking, if I live to be 100, I will never see a fight as good as the fourth battle with Bazooka Limon. Almost unrealistically exciting. That's how dramatic it was. Very late in his career, his brawl with Art Frias was especially noteworth as well.
Interesting factoid about his fight with the other Golden Boy from the 80's, a younger, bigger version of himself, Ray Mancini.....

Mancini easily retained his title against Chacon with a third-round stoppage and Bobby seemed at the end of a long career, whereas Mancini was on the cusp of superstardom. Amazingly, despite what happened there that night, Mancini would never win another fight, and Chacon, though he never challenged for a title again, never lost another. Weird.

Oh, and the second Boza Edwards fight. Don't skip that one either.

He's basically like a better version of Gatti. Incredibly exciting fighter but short on the elite level. It's also worth noting that he's beaten almost every fighters that have beaten him including Ruben Olivares. Alexis Arguello is the only fighter that he could not avenge his defeat from.

Would have been nice if he had fought prime Hector Camacho. That's a fight that could have happened but sadly didn't.

Should move this one to classic.

Anyway, I put him as B+ but as his been mentioned, his heart was A+.

I should probably watch some more of his featherweight fights.
