He comes forward with a peek a boo ala mike tyson without alot of head movement. in his last fight, for a guy who was supposed to lose, he was hardly marked up and his defense was as tight as i've seen it. i think he picks punches of really well and hardly gets hit flush. its very simple, without the shoulder rolls but its very effective like a winky wright. i would say its great but a guy who comes forward throughout a fight has to have a great defense otherwise he'd get schooled. thoughts?
don't compare him with winky or tyson. rios doesn't get hit flush but he gets hit alot but he doesn't mark up but neither does maidana so that doesn't show defence, rios is good for a pressure fighter but a good outside fighter with crisp punches will take him apart. Head movement in terms avoiding shots is poor and should improve
rios' defense is awful, no head movement WHATSOEVER and he seems to only be able to block punches whilst standing still....when he's pressing froward he's target practice
i agree he needs to work on head movement and his jab to get in close. i dont think he does enough work to get inside. a great fighter like a pacman or mayweather wouldnt even let the fight get inside the way he tries to just walk you down.
' a great fighter like a pacman or mayweather wouldnt even let the fight get inside the way he tries to just walk you down.' fighters like khan, devon alexander will hit him flush before he gets in, don't compare to greats
He can block and parry pretty good when fighters are coming at him square...other than that it's pretty **** poor.
With his gloves or did your mean face? The guy has a great defense for a baseball catcher, he will be a gold glove winner he catches everything, with his face... didn't you c how many times his head was snapped from Abril punches? And the only honest thing Rios said in the interview was, "he hit me good"
Despite being dominated by Abril he didnt really take a lot of punishment. For a come forward guy wth no head movement his defence is better than you would expect against a boxer. However his inside game defence is where is he seems to lack, which is perhaps what you wouldnt expect for a pressure fighter. The likes of Murray, who you would consider a level if not two below, have been able to get off good shots against him.
:thumbsup Abrils feather fisted as well so thats another reason Rios face wasnt marked up. Abril couldnt crack a window if he threw his father threw it.
