A tremendous win, which would put him high on the P4P list where he belongs.

Whilst I'm not saying it would be better than Pac's win over Cotto, it's worth mentioning that Rios is right in his prime and Cotto, though still very good, had clearly lost something post-Margarito. I think both wins would both be of a similar high standard.

Of course. Being the smaller fighter and unsure of how he’ll fair in an alien weightclass against a live opponent in that weight, they asked for a catchweight because they hoped it would level the playing field. But did that happen? Did they actually get the drained Cotto they were gunning for? Based on what we eventually saw in the ring, I would say without hesitation – no. Cotto was as quick and as sharp as he’d ever been. His main problem was (and it still is) that he was damaged goods when it came to taking punishment. He reacted even worse than before when hit. That’s what benefited Pacquiao the most. He was facing a mentally dented fighter. Not a weight-drained one.

And this thing about him [Cotto] being a technically more sound fighter and being at a more comfortable weight where he’s the number one, is greatly exaggerated (and laughable). He’s been feasting on cherry-picked opponents the whole time he’s been there. That hardly makes you the top dog of the division. Beating a shot-to-**** Mayorga (who still managed to have success of his own), a one-legged Foreman, and a one-eyed Margarito, are hardly signs of great improvement, either. The attempt by Floyd fans to inflate their man’s opponents and discredit Pac’s, is amusing. It really is. But that’s a topic for another discussion.

And I find it funny that, for Rios, you can place great emphasis on a conditioning coach and the many benefits he’ll bring him when it comes to making weight, yet ignore the fact that Cotto had a good conditioning coach for his fight, too. If Rios’ weight problems – which are very notorious – can be excused because of an expert monitoring his body, then why can’t Cotto? A Cotto who had no prior record of struggling at the 147 weight. A Cotto who weighed comfortably only a pound heavier (146) in the fight before. A Cotto who even admitted (before and after the fight) that weight was not an issue. The man himself didn't have a problem with it, yet you guys, sitting in your living room watching on TV, are gonna' tell us that he did. Like I said, laughable.

you call cotto's wins cherry picked but ignore pac's wins have all been carefully cherry picked. Shot hatton, shot AND weight drained oscar who hadn't fought at 147 in nearly 8 years, cotto was a respected test but still at catchweight and cotto was lower in confidence at that moment in his career, then sh!tty clottey who is crap, catchweight for margarito who has no skills and is a cheater and was KO'd then banned for a year (not a worthy opponent) then an old mosley who was slow and never came to fight and just wanted a check (pac waited for mosley to get old) then he fought marquez who was his hardest fight on years but pac still made marquez wait till last and wait for marquez to slow down and get older and marquez was the biggest draw and made pac his highest payday.

    by KO Mosley>margarito>cotto

pac fought them in order of weakest first cotto-margarito-mosley (cherry picking at its finest) what happened to margarito and mosley by the time pac fought them? they got old and shot

Which other great wins can we look at and compare? :think

    - Martinez vs Pavlik
    - Martinez vs Willams II
    - Donaire vs Montiel
    - Hopkins vs Pavlik

There are probably far better ones out there. But I can't think of any right now....

Win or lose I already have more respect for him possibly more than most fighters. He's going north 2 divisions to take on a prime, dangerous, brawler puncher who's a beast in his own right. The only things that might spoil this fight are Rios being weakened once again making 135 and Gamboa not carrying his speed and/or power to that weight. Ironically maybe 135 in a worst case scenerio may not be for either one of them at least in 2012, but I hope I'm wrong. Idk if Rios last fight was a warning sign for him to move up, but it really seems both these guys want to move up in weight ASAP to get a crack at Pacman or Floyd. FOTY I'm almost sure. Gamboa most likely enters p4p rankings if he wins.

One of the best wins in boxing in recent years. It would in all likeliness vault him to be considered the #1 guy at lightweight; and after jumping straight up from FW, it would be quite the accomplishment.

Gamboa's best win for sure but not a big deal either as Rios is very overrated. ;)

Rios overrated? :patsch Ok please explain that one. Rios stopped an A level champion caliber fighter in Acosta and has impressive win over Peterson. Gamboas best win is over Salido and PDL, but didn't look too great winning those. I don't think either one is overrated. Gamboa fought slightly better comp vs Salido, but he got dropped and has been dropped by lesser fighters. If he struggled with Salido he's going to go soul searching with Rios. If not for the Salido fight Gamboa would have a case of being overrated. Solis and PDL both past their best days. PDL wasn't even supposed to last 3 and even seemed to outbox Gamboa early. Wth happened there?

I still rate Casa over Gamboa. If Yuriorkis wins about even, but Casa's wins over Chico still better than a Rios win.

I can't wait for this. Easily the most intriguing fight of the year for me.
