How would you rate Gervonta Davis’ boxing skills and ring IQ?

I honestly think his skills and ring IQ get underrated. Yeah he seems to have that tendency to start slow and get himself outworked early but something I do notice is that he usually ends up getting stronger and more dangerous as the fight goes on. Davis’ sharp counterpunching starts to take over and it’s just a matter of time until he comes with a clean shot that knocks his man out.

Davis is more than just a Deontay Wilder type that relies on just power to bail him out. He’s a skilled boxer that has devastating power to back him up. He’s not unbeatable by any means but you need to have a lot in your arsenal to beat Tank.

Agreed he's very skilled. He has certain inherent disadvantages due to be short and stocky, he could easily just be a little Pitbull of a fighter who marches forward and swarms opponents, but instead he's learned to be patient, use his lack of size to make opponents overreach and time them with counters when they do. I wouldn't say he up there with the likes of Usyk, Inoue and Crawford but he's top 10 P4P for me on ability.

It's a shame he won't take tougher fights, he wouldn't win them all but he'd still be one of the best at 135 and 140.

He only really had to work for it against Barrios (let the fight get late without taking over on the cards) and Pitbull (hand injury). He's in total control of these fights where he's even or down by a point after six or seven rounds.

If he ever fights a guy who he thinks he can't knockout, we'll see if he allows himself to lose a few early rounds.

High IQ in terms of setting up counters and openings. You don´t often see uppercuts used as feints. But he lacks the skills and smarts to actually box with his opponent.
His approach only works because of his power, which again bailed him out. But, that power comes from perfect technique and he deserves credit for that.

He has been showing a veterans mindset last few fights. His calmness confidence to carry out game like proves he will be maturing into an old head of the sport, he has seen a lot and knows what he is doing. If Abdul had to work hard for every inch against Frank he would have done that

All I know is, once Tank decides to take a dude out, the fight is over in a round or 2. It will be interesting to see when Tank steps on the gas and the opponent not only survives the attack but gets their offense in as well.

He literally boxed with a boxer in Martin last night. Martin won rounds because of Tanks low output, but Tank was always in range putting Martin on the ropes and trapping him in corners. I never paid attention, but Tank may be able to cut off the ring very well.

I think tank was in control of the fight yesterday, even if he was losing rounds. Imho it was clearly his strategy, and it worker very well.

Tank is a very skilled fighter with decent IQ and quite heavy hands. We can't say more until he pushes his limits. Looking forward to it.

Martin spent the whole fight running into Tank's left uppercut. Low IQ. Tank needs to step up and start fighting top oposition, that's the only way to answer the questions about him.

I could only say that he needs to prove his skills and power against top level guys.

Even OLD Loma would be great test for him.

They can fight this year, while Shakur can fight with other belt holder, Berinchyk
