How would you rate Lemieux's performance?

I'd give it a 7 out of 10, he was in with a good opponent who moves very well and has a big heart. He lost some rounds, but eventually the four knockdowns made the difference. But when you think of Lemieux before and now, his boxing has improved, because he did had some success with his pressure at moments of the fight. Hopefully when he and his team re watch this fight, they will realize there is much work to do and work on his boxing. But he has gained valuable experience from this fight.

    Here are still flaws:

    - His footwork is not very good, he had a very hard time cutting of the ring
    - He needs to use his jab more in order to set up those deadly combinations and stop using wild swings.
    - His defense is improved, but still not good enough.
    - Same can be said about his stamina

Terrible. I'll post what I thought about both since I mentioned this in a blog

Fight showed that neither guy is World Level

I would say this fight exposed BOTH guys; Lemieux has power but holy mother of Mary he needs to learn to cut the ring off and he faded at the second half of the fight. Also he was getting tagged a lot, something that was getting missed by the numerous knockdowns he inflicted on N’dam and his accuracy wasn’t great either. So good offense but technically and defensively he leaves a lot to be desired.

N’dam on the other hand fought in a style I could only describe as a bizarre mix of Broner and Lara; a lot of dancing and dodging but I was screaming "throw something" so many times I lost count. N’dam could have won this if he did throw more as it would have disrupted the majority of Lemieux’s attacks; Although Lemieux missed a lot, N’dam not being productive meant Lemieux could throw more and he was bound to tag N’dam eventually, which showcased in the four knockdowns. Every time N’damn needed to be urgent, he’d go back to acting as if he was in a disco in the 70s.

Entertaining fight but it also showed how much improvement each fighter needs to compete at world level.

Great power. Ndam ran 90% of the fight, and it is tough to chase someone down.

He missed too much for my liking, was not efficient with his punches.

His stamina looked fine to me. He exhausted a lot of energy literally running Ndam down. It was like a track meet.

    A dominant performance otherwise.

Credit to both men. One of the better middleweight fights recently. The huge gulf in Power made the difference here.

This fight was like in my top 3 fights of the year on entertainment alone.

It was hard for him to set himself to throw punches, he was just thinking bout avoiding Lemieux's punches because he couldn't handle his power and Lemieux was so aggressive.. had he tried to throw more it's most likely that he'd have been stopped. Although saying that he should have used his jab a lot more though.

I watched that fight, I was there ringside. Lemieux was throwing bombs all night and n'dam couldn't set up.

    That's true.

Lemieux a very fan friendly but extremely limited and flawed fighter.I enjoy watching his fights and he will always have a punchers chance but I feel his title reign will be a short one if they put him in with a skilled boxer who can also punch a bit.
I will enjoy the ride for however long it lasts.

Not bad, actually. N'Dam was actually all wrong for David, his mobility and tight defense were HUGE tests for Lemieux's style.

Remember, from here on out opponents will make Lemieux expand less energy moving around as N'Dam is pretty much the top of the spectrum in terms of mileage around the ring at 160. Against anybody else, Lemieux still has lots of bombs left in the 10-11-12th rounds. See the 10th against Rosado...

They know what they need to work on. Power will always be there, it seems.

    Hey Drozzy,
I know you are a Montrealer and know that local fight scene.I was under whelmed however with the fans attending this show and lack of Canadian TV coverage.I understand less than 4500 paid for the event and it was only available on PPV something called BellTV.Would it not have been better to have David's fight on regular Canadian tv to at least introduce him to Canadian fans on a larger audiance level.Golden Boy really dropped the ball on this one.

Yeah Fatcity, you're right about the coverage at large... in this day and age, Rogers Media and Bell are in a fukkin ruthless war of exclusivity - started with hockey and "NHL Centre Ice" (vs the old concept of spreading games over 3-4 channels year round). This business model just sucks, you can thank Camille Estephan from EOTM for that; I did watch the tv coverage at a Cage aux Sports restaurant and they had interviews with Pascal, Bute and the guys on the card a few minutes after they would come out of the ring.

As for the #'s in attendance, well fukk it's June in Quebec. That's all you need to know.

The fans who were there though were apparently very much into it...

In French. I'm not home, I'm on a trip up North so I can't speak for anything my Rogers service had available in terms of English PPV (I mean, there's a chance there was).

As soon as you say title fight for a fighter out of Quebec, it becomes PPV. It's nonsense, but fights don't come around often so they need to squeeze every little bit of cash they can out of boxing fans and casuals.
