Here's one for you. Rid**** Bowes power? Bigger puncher than Baer? Only man to stop Holyfield. Granted Holyfield had many issues in that fight but still only man to stop him and caught him with an overhand right right on the jaw mid exchange and you saw the damage.
Tyson should be on that list as well. The list is not in any special order however if I had to choose I would pick Foreman as the hardest puncher of them all.
Bowe could punch as well but this would be in my mind a "call". Both had their primary power in their right hand. Pickem.
If we are talking about pure raw Power shot for shot i would not put bowe, Luois, dempsey or rocky over baer
I would. Arcel trained Baer for a while. He was asked how Baers right hand power compared to Dempsey. Arcel with a laugh stated Dempsey was the greater right hand puncher adding....."It was not close".
Well.. Charlie goldman said that oscar bonavena did hit harder han marciano... I imagine that you will take exactly equal this word and you will not make excuses.. Right?
He was one of the most powerful punchers of all time. Definitely a special fighter. He lacked patience, which is what I believe led to his antics. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he KO'd some of the best boxers in his era in spectacular fashion.
I think he was a natural big, strong, tough guy for the time , a bit over rated in the power department but still a big puncher but otherwise very raw , like Graziano type raw .. It still amazes me that he beat Scheming the way he did .. the way Louis destroyed him brings him far down to Earth ..
You don't think he learned how to fight? He was the heavyweight champion of the world. I think he just had major ADD problems. Like Emmanuel Augustus. They couldn't stay focused.
I honestly think that he might have had Ernie Shavers type power. You hear the same sort of testimony from his opponents, and he didn’t even need to hit people cleanly to hurt them. At least three common opponents said that he hit harder than Joe Louis.
The idea is did Bear learn the rudimentary skills of the sport? He was a big strong athlete with huge right hand power, great chin, tough, in shape he could fight 15 rounds. On the negative side he had little of a jab, not much of a left hook, never really saw in him an ability to slip, block, parry, and counterpunch. In general not a great defense. So when I write he never had the discipline to learn how to fight its within this context.
Those who sparred with or fought both put Bowe on a tier below Foreman. Foreman tends to be rated in his own category, not the sharpest puncher but a guy who "changed the balance of the ring"...
Foreman no doubt PUNCHED HARDER THAN Bowe. My comment compared Baer and Bowe in terms of punching power.
