No I got it. I listed guys who were not on one of the lists, including Pacquiao, and made the erroneous statement
that they'd all beat Floyd, including Manny. You pointed out that he in fact DID defeat Manny. It was my mistake.

My point was that Mayweather was more spent than Manny when they actually fought.

I don't feel comfortable ranking fighters for which there is not a substantial amount of high quality prime footage.

Joe Gans in particular, the first result that comes up when you search on Youtube is his loss against Terry McGovern. Now, I'm not that familiar with McGovern so perhaps he is well regarded but from what I saw I am not impressed. McGovern spent most of the fight with his hands down and his chin up, throwing wild haymakers at Gans. Do you really see Mayweather losing against such an opponent? You see better technique in the undercards nowadays.

Pacquaio I really see no argument for being over Mayweather at any weight. In my opinion he was not a finished project until around 2008, and by then he was fighting in weight classes for which he was very undersized.

This is just blatant revisionist history. Floyd was not spent at all when he fought Manny, he aged like wine, getting even better and more untouchable with age. Pacquiao meanwhile looked nothing like the fighter he was in his prime. The ferocity was gone, the dynamite power was gone, his chin was shot etc.

No. Floyd lost his legs and had less snap on his punches from the Maidana fights on. He was 38 years old. It's why he retired.

Manny went on to beat Bradley and Thurman which were some his best 147 wins.

    Glass City Cobra,

The stats look extremely impressive on paper. But they’re not as impressive when you look at the 13 fights that he had at the weight.

I would favour Hearns, Leonard and Robinson over Floyd at WW.

I’ve already reminded you that this wasn’t your view before he fought Floyd.

There was nothing phenomenal about him beating Mosley.

    A 36 year old LW.

I do give him credit for beating Maidana. Because he was at an advanced age and it was a tough stylistic match up for him.

It’s nothing to do with not liking him.

I’ve already said that I thought it was a great performance, especially when you consider his lay off. He was incredibly sharp. But again, the win itself wasn’t amazing when you put it into context.

Sure, nobody made Marquez move up. And sure, Marquez was a great fighter. But he was a 36 year old LW who Floyd deliberately cheated on the scales. After the fight, Marquez then went straight back to LW. But instead of seeing those things, you give him a pass and then say that the 4 pounds weren’t relevant. And that’s because you are completely biased. You will give Floyd a pass for any of his actions.

The only thing that I agree with, is that when fighters take on challenges like that, they’re really in a no-win position.

Like you’ve noted, Spence doesn’t get any credit.

    He didn’t though.

Again, he said that he healed the scar tissue in the salt water of the ocean.

    The facts are:

    1. He was denied a pain killing injection before the fight.

    2. He had surgery the following week.

When watching the fight, I personally questioned some of his tactics and wondered why he wasn’t pressing more etc.

It’s a complex part of the body. No two injuries are exactly the same.

Again, we know that it was genuine due to how he fought, he pre-fight request and his post fight surgery.

You’d have to be completely ignorant to think that the whole thing had been fabricated.

    I agree with you.

    In 2005, Floyd wasn’t a draw either.

Again, everything had already been agreed to, before Floyd changed his demands right at the last moment. So how on earth did Winky leave the fight on the table?

Why are you not criticising Floyd’s actions?

Winky was a unified JMW champ coming off of 2 very big wins. He wasn’t going to put his titles on the line and take a lesser percentage against a LWW.

The fact is: If Floyd hadn’t have gone back on his original agreement at the last moment, we’d have seen the fight.

Floyd is the reason why it didn’t happen.

He obviously wasn’t as confident as how he first appeared when he ran his mouth off in the media.

*Manny was allowed to use corticosteroids, which are WADA banned PEDs.

The fact is that Floyd was able to make fights with just about every big name from his era. Winky was full of himself after beating Mosley, who wasn’t all that at 154, and created a storied history of squandered fights due to overvaluing himself as he was a C lister in terms of drawing fans.

    Which ones specifically?

Floyd was allowed an illegal IV which purposely wasn’t reported by either USADA or any member of Floyd’s team.

The NSAC had absolutely no knowledge of it until 3 weeks AFTER the fight.

I don’t care who Floyd was able to make fights with.

He wasn’t a draw himself in 2005, and it was HE who walked from the Winky fight after all of his demands had been met, which included a 2nd weigh-in.

Floyd is responsible for the Winky fight not having taking place.

He ran his mouth off but then backed out at the last moment.

    He ducked Winky.

Celestone. It makes you feel like you’re 20 years old again, whereas an IV is about the same as drinking Gatorade.

130- #1 I don't see too many giving him problems. Perhaps if you tried to fit Armstrong into 130 that could be a great fight.

    135- 11-12 ( hand problems)

    140- top 5-6

    147- Maybe top 25-30.

Lightweight is where we expected more. His offense was diminished from his 130 days. I think there are a # of tough lightweights over the years that would have Mayweather's #. Some of the pressures guys, relentless that could force him to fight for 3 minutes a round. Carlos Ortiz, Armstrong, Beau Jack, Bob Montgomery, Chavez, Duran, even guys like, Camacho, Laguna would or should be even $.
