How would you rate Mike Tyson as a fighter?

Which were his best victories? How would he do against the Klitschkos? Why did he lose to Buster Douglas? What went wrong in his career since he lost his skills suddenly? I respect Mike Tyson, a true legend. But I'm interested in hearing this

Well he had a short prime but in his prime he was as great as any.
The best first round fighter ever. He had great handspeed. Great Power. Great combos.
He had fine defense + head movement+chin. His downfall was mental and all of the people who wanted something from him. He wasn't prepared for all of that. Cus didint have quite enough time.

But in his Prime he beats both Klitschko brothers and Lennox Lewis.

Let's keep it real. Tyson's career ended when Cus died. I know he went on to win the title, but he was not the same fighter. Tyson's stamina wasn't the best even when Cus was alive though. And the fact that he mentally sef-destructed tells me that he never had the mental fortitude to be an ATG fighter.

But... his defense was sick. And his ability to come in on fighters who were much bigger was crazy. And of course the power. I think a prime Tyson destroys either of the Klitchkos and Lennox Lewis. Their chins are just too bad. Think about the Lewis/ Tua fight. If Tua had Tyson's inside game, Lewis would still be waking up from that ****.

The only fighters from his era that could hung with him would've been Holyfield and Bowe.

H2h could of beaten anyone in his prime. Without Cus the downward spiral began. In the right direction, he might of been even greater. Unfortunately had too many demons and unstable personality. Was more ****ed emotionally than anyone imagined.

He had a great chin also as it took several shots from Douglas and Lewis to put him down. By that time his love for the game was gone. He'll always love boxing, but he was done with fighting. Short prime. Just like,Bowe.

So you think there was a slight lack of motivation after D'Amato died despite the push to win the title in his honor...or in his words:

You don't win the heavyweight championship at age 20 and wipe the entire division clean before the age of 22 by not having mental fortitude.

And yes, Tyson was an ATG fighter:deal

A few of my favorite Tyson victims:

Jesse Ferguson: Tyson's first real test.

Reggie Gross: Spectacular highlight reel knockout.

Marvis Frazier: 30 seconds of mayhem.

    Jose Ribalta: 10 round brawl.

Trevor Berbick: Most aesthetically pleasing KO of all time.

Pinklon Thomas: Thomas came to fight.

Tyrell Biggs: Dismantling of talented fighter.

Larry Holmes: Nobody ever did that to Larry. Nobody.

    Tony Tubbs: Tubbs got touched.

Michael Spinks: Google "91 seconds" and see what shows up.

Just a few from Peak Tyson. You should definitely check out all his fights on youtube. They should all be on there.

Let's also remember that Tyson chose to be with Robin Givens. And Tyson himself admits he wasn't a good husband.

Tyson Chose to go with Don King and leave Cayton and Rooney who D'Amato set him up with.

Let's not forget these were bad choices made on the part of Mike Tyson the Champion which should have an affect on judging his reign as "Champion."

And let's not forget that Tyson, especially Tyson, given his vast knowledge and grooming of the sport with knowing what has happened to fighters in the past with their bad choices...and I would think he would know who and what Don King was about...should get some blame in all of this.

I'm not saying the Catskill squad was perfect, not at all; but compared to Don King and his homies taking over his career...come on Mike :patsch....that looks like a condom over your swollen eye and now that's your mouth piece on the ground.

Really sad. He was forewarned by Cus and the Catskill crew about King and the bs politics of boxing in general. It's almost like all the stars aligned, bad stars, at the worst possible time. All the good that Tyson done somehow had to be balanced out with the bad.

I remember how everyone was making a big deal on how easily Tyson destroyed Alex Stewart. I remember in the fight, Jim Lampley said something about Stewart never going down against Holyfield....yet he got knocked down 3 times by Tyson in the first round.

Stewart was scared sh*tless though. Credit to Mike for blasting him out quick. I wonder what Stewart said when asked who he thought would win between Tyson and Holyfield!
