I always thought Wlad's chin was about as weak as it gets. Though his top notch offensive output covered up his achilles heel well enough noone was able to expose it till Corrie "Wlad Slayer" Sanders exposed his weakness in 03 for all to see. After that he had his up's and certainly his downs afterward. Being laid out by Brewster in 04, floored by TOS that same year, and bounced all over the ring by Sam Peter 05. Though Steward stuck with his man and taught him how to clinch, jab, and panic his way to victory. So if Wlad had to rely on his chin only, where would you rank it?
Horrible TOS dropped him with a weak looking shot, Peter dropped him whenever he touched him, Sanders nearly killed him and of course once Brewster started landing he won by KO. Wlad has had careful matchmaking the last 5 years and has fought guys who cant reach him, has he even been hit since Peter ? I dont recall seeing Wlad Klitschko take one clean punch since.
:good No, he really hasn't been hit hard since Peter in september of 05. Tompson got a couple decent blows in, but his power is not much better than Chris Bryd's.
It is not good,Wlad could easily fall apart again if he gets tagged. His defence is not bad but someone is going to nail him again soon.
i'll take flake but i agree with tommy, average. i won't defend his chin and say it's any good but it's decent at best. he took good shots from brewster before going, peter never really hurt him even when he was laying down whatever sam peter considers combinations on the back of his head, and the williamson knockdown, though legit, was flash. on the downside, sanders destroyed him and though he kept getting up he went back down everytime he was even grazed. i think his chin gets underrated as glass and even he was surprised when he took that ONE decent shot chagaev landed (after the bell). it's maybe ok but he will always be vulnerable to elite punchers
his defense is just his foot movement (which is okay imo, but exceptional when compared to opponents' he chooses) and his jab. Beyond that (whis is, to be fair, a pretty big 'beyond') he is not hard to get to at all. If they ever fight, Haye will tag him and put him down, I'll put money on it.
if wlad lands not even cleanly on haye, than haye will be out for a year... wlad's chin is at best average, he can take one big shot, but if there are 3 or 4 in a row he goes down. look at the sanders fight, the first punch was a huge left counter, wlad tried to clinch, and sanders got him with 3 big punches and then he went down...
haye is okay, but he is so open to counters and straight rights and left hooks and uppercuts, it's frightining, he won't fight wlad, cause he will get knocked out before...
this is truth, if not for the fact that Haye's had his bell rung numerous times by cruiserweights I'd probably put the house on him beating Wlad. Haye knows he's got to circle Wlad and stay away from the 1-2, fortunately for him he'd be the only Klitschko opponent in quite some time capable of doing so
