How would you recalibrate/change the weight-classes?

In the end, great fighters will be remembered for WHO they faught and certain 'epic' battles more than what weight class they were sanctioned at.

I like this idea. The main problem I have with the existing categories is that the 25lb jump between LHW and CW is way too big.

An 87kg class in the amateurs wouldn't hurt either (maybe push the next class out from 91kg to 95kg or so).

in female boxing they are adding an atom wieght division. 100 pounds

i think this is fine becuase there are girls who are i think under or near 90pounds fighting people 10 to 14 pounds heavier than they are.

i really like the sugestion for changing the light heavywieght name to cruiser. make so much sense

Fighters drain to make weight because they KNOW it is only an extra 2/3 pounds. Or in some cases " i can get down to xxx weight if i really shred".

IF they knew there was only 1 weight class that was suitable for them. Can you imagine how much better the preparations would be not having to lose 15 or 20% of body weight to accomodate for it. Fighters would be infinitely healthier if they did not see the lesser weight classes as a potential advantage and fought naturally closer to their walk around weight.

There is a massive difference between fighting healthy and fighting weight drained

All this "multi division" champ rubbish only serves to DILUTE talent. List for yourselves the fighters who would be listed as "Lightweight" under the original weight classes. Imagine how deep that talent pool is. Do the same for Welter and Middle. We do not need "super" this class or "light" this class. It is a problem with our favourite sport that will never go away. The same as Multiple sanctioning bodies. It will NEVER go away

I don't think the # of classes is a problem at all. Just the # of belts in each division.

    106 Straw
    112 Fly
    118 Bantam
    126 Feather
    135 Light
    147 Welter
    160 Middle
    172 Super Middle
    185 Light Heavy
    200 Cruiseryweight
    unlimited Heavyweight

The little guys need some weight classes, but there's no need for Super Flyweight and Super Bantamweight.

No need for new weights. Just, as Hermit suggests move weight-in. The only problem here is big guys draining down to bully minor boxers. Boxing should`nt be a contest about superior ability to put on weight in 24 hours.

Well, it used to be lover. They moved it up to close the gap upwards.
They could also have chosen to make both 180/190 classes.

I guess the big guy fights has this internal ambivalence - on one side if you are 190-200 with power you dont nessesary hold the lower hand against Valuev style monsters. You have enough power to hurt albeit opponents size, and you have huge advantages in speed and agility.

Size isnt as decisive among heavies/ cruisers with enough punching power.

Leave the weight class as it is. Just have the weigh-in on the fight night to eliminate the dehydration trick and blow up 3 weight classes above and retain just one belt for every weight class. Then we can see who is the best of the bunch.
