"Professional boxing is no longer worthy of civilized society. Quite frankly, I now find the whole subject of professional boxing disgusting. Except for the fighters, you're talking about human scum, nothing more. Professional boxing is utterly immoral. It's not capable of reformation. I now favor the abolition of professional boxing. You'll never clean it up. Mud can never be clean."--Howard Cosell I know Cosell said that after watching a title fight between Larry Holmes and Randall "Tex" Cob that went too long for his taste. But here he's putting everyone in the same bag ( except the fighters); anyone knows why ?
He wasn't even a boxing fan when he was ostensibly a boxing fan, if you know what I mean. He was a cheerleader for certain fighters and full of negativity toward most others. Sort of the Larry Merchant of his day. (except an even bigger ****)
Personally, I don't give a **** what reporters think. Just report on the news (what is happening) and shut up about your opinion. I wish people in the media would do this. For example: Bob Costas is an arrogant wind bag.
Howard Cosell was an extremely arrogant and pompous individual that made an awful lot of money positioning himself up the asses of the two great attractions in the sport's history in Muhammed Ali and Ray Leonard. We all know boxing is a corrupt sport as it amounts to 2 people beating each other up for our enjoyment. But for him to make those statements after making his cash from the aforementioned 2 indicates his balderdash.
Howard only said that because he was informed he was being taken off ABC's boxing coverage well before the Holmes-Cobb fight that was just his excuse.
:deal Basically, Larry's dick wasn't as yummy as that of Larry's own idol. His was a pale imitation of "The Greatest" ***** flavor. 100% guaranteed had it been the original article in there beating up Cobb, not a peep of complaint would have been uttered.
But Howard Cossell was attracted to Larry and made a move on him. http://books.google.com/books?id=dV...e8yqv3zcAqU5nG0WB9w&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=false
WTF. [Cosell always struck me as a very strange man. One time, Howard, Don King, and I were sitting at the bar in Caesars, and I felt this hand rubbing on my knee and then up my thigh. What the hell is this? It was goddamned Howard, I looked at Cosell and growled: "What you doing, manil? Get your hand off me!" Howard turned it into a joke, slurring his words and saying, "But I love you, Larry. I wanna make love to you," King started laughing his big dumb laugh "Har, har, har... It bothered me a lot because even if it was a joke, his touching me there wasn't funny. A year later, we were at Caesars again, right after the Cooney fight, and this time Diane was sitting with us. Damned if I didn't feel Cosell's hand rubbing me in the same place. I got angry again. Don laughed in the same way. And Cosell turned to Diane and slurred, "What do you see in this guy? I could treat you so much better than he does. Why don't you come away with me?" Supposedly he was kidding again.] [yt]wbFugETZW7U[/yt]
