I had ever seen. Coming out of the 1976 Olympics (where he was the Most Outstanding Boxer) I believed him to be a sure bet to win a world title ahead of Leonard, Spinks brothers etc.
    WHAT HAPPENED??

The 1976 team -- Bold designates future world professional champions
    106: Louis Curtis, Washington, D.C.
112: Leo Randolph, Tacoma, Wash. (Gold)
    119: Charles Mooney, Army (Silver)
125: Davey Lee Armstrong, Puyallup, Wash.
132: Howard Davis Jr., Glen Cove, N.Y. (Gold)
139: Ray Leonard, Palmer Park, Md. (Gold)
    147: Clinton Jackson, Nashville, Tenn.
156: Charles Walker Jr., Mesa, Ariz.
165: Michael Spinks, St. Louis, Mo. (Gold)
178: Leon Spinks, St. Louis, Mo. (Gold)
+178: John Tate, Knoxville, Tenn. (Bronze)

What happened was Davis had the wrong management, in addition, probably not the right trainer, and his focus wasn't 100%.I think he was a veggie, not the right thing for a fighter of his caliber. He should be ashamed for losing to Jim Watt, who was a good fighter, but not of his talent.
