i dont know who would have won but i think its a great matchup. both of these guys had incredable amature boxing talent and although davis was the one to find gold at the olympics, robinson was showing tremendous heart against gatti, manfredy and holiday. if howard davis could draw with meldrick taylor then he may be the betting favorite against robinson but robinson would not give a single inch and he has pulled of the upset before.
yeah i was quite a fan of robinson, he couldent punch relatively hard and his defense was very leaky, but he had world class ability (extremely fast hand and pedigree offensive technique). he would sometimes let his emotions dictate a fight. he could have beaten philip holiday but he fought holidays fight for all twelve rounds, i remember tommy brooks telling him every round to box, ivan would nod and then go to war as the bell rang. i think he could have beaten angel manfredy too, but he made that a war as well.
You have to love Robinson's fights with Gatti. His fight with Holiday was also very good, but Holiday's swarming style gave him fits.
I like Robinson too and I agree that he could have beaten Holiday if had boxed more, even fighting Holidays fight the fight was still very close. However I disagree with you about Manfredy. That was one of Angels best nigths and he completly dominated Robinson, no matter what Robinson did Manfredy was just faster and stronger that night. Against Davis This would be a good fight and Robinson was definitly more exciting than Davis, but Davis was a just a better fighter than Robinson in the skills department and hed take a convincing decision. If Robinson had more power id give him a shot but i dont see him beating Davis here. Davis 97-93 96-94 97-94
