[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Lewis McNeal Promotions along with Stanford Solomon of Solomon Enterprises have agreed to promote the eagerly anticipated clash between new domestic middleweight champion Howard Eastman and former world champion Andrew 'Six Heads' Lewis for the national title of Guyana on September 27. Speaking at a press conference last week at the Main Street Plaza Hotel, co-promoter Odinga Lumumba said that the two fighters who're arguably among the best prize fighters this country has ever produced will square off against each other on a card dubbed 'The Perfect Storm' which is tentatively set for the Guyana National Stadium. The occasion which saw the two fighters sign the contractual agreement and receive advance payments was also attended by President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Peter Abdool, Matchmaker Maurice 'Busy' Boyce, Lewis' Trainer Roy Ferguson and other members of the boxing

How does this one work? The national Guyanese title is on the line!? I know six heads is defintly Guyanese. I know Eastman was born there but his nationality is British. How is it possible to fight for diffrent national titles representing diffrent countries? Is dual nationality all it takes?

Maybe the fact that you are born in a country means you always have the option to fight for that title irrespective of any other nationalities a boxer has subsequently qualified for?

Either way I can't see the Guyanese Board of Control being overly strict on the issue....

Then why was Takaloo not allowed to fight for the Lonsdale? Of course the Guyanese board of control will sanction it but Eastman was a domestic triple champ. And now he also gets to be the champ of Guyana?!?:blood

Its a totally different situation. Takaloo wasn't born in Britian, Eastman WAS born in Guyana.

In the Takaloo case wasn't his citizenship 'pending' rather than 'approved' when his was fighting? I'm going from memory but I think I'm right?

He's eligible now, but you are indeed correct .

Fighters can fight for the Irish title through birth, citizenship, parentage or having a grandparent from here . I'm fine with the first 3 but the grandparent thing is a bit much for me .

Some national titles can be fought for with only one of the participants from the country, although only that fighter can win the title .

The some countries(eg Germany and Poland) have 'International' titles, where it's a national title in a way but the fighters participating can be from anywhere .

Considering Eastman was born and lives(I think) in Guyana there is nothing strange about this at all .

You sure. I thought he was living here?! I saw him about 5 years ago at a basketball tournament. I guess he may have moved back home then..

Maybe its a passport/citizenship issue. Takaloo did not become a British citizen for quite some time.
