I Agree with BillyBob for a change. Periban was in danger of getting hurt, the difference in levels there was too big for any other result. Otake wasn't as clear cut but then he didn't stop it, but a stoppage in the later rounds to prevent more punishment would not have been out the question. Yep Foster sometimes stops them too early but Id rather see that than a fighter end up like McClellan, etc. Especially when the opponent has not hope of a win. Further punishment is pointless. If they were not world championship fights, they don't need to go to the death.
Why wasn't Groves cut (that he had for 4 rounds) looked at then? Dress it up however you like but he stopped Periban too early, just as he did in the first Froch Groves fight.
Its boxing, you can get seriously hurt at any moment. The guy should have been given a count and the opportunity to prove he was ready to continue. Howard Foster has proved time and again he is a joke of a ref. Terry o'connor has proved time and again he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a boxing ring.
The cut last night? The one that was on his nose and nowhere near damaging his sight or causing any permanent damage? Or another cut that my rather poor memory has forgotten?
Don't think Foster covered himself in glory over the weekend again either the Periban stoppage was too early for me at least give the guy a count and he was practically begging the doctors to stop Otake.
did you not see peri bans legs walking back to his corner,he was doing the shake a vac mate he would have got seriously hurt had it continued even for a further 10-20 sec
Not a very good referee in my opinion. And I do not understand all this "fighters will get hurt" rubbish when justifying Fosters poor stoppages, well if you want a ref jumping in to save you or your fighter at the slightest wobble then stay in the amateurs. It is professional boxing, the reality is people do get seriously hurt and sometimes worse, I always believed that was a risk the fighter understood and accepted. If a trainer is that concerned that his fighter is hurt then throw in the towel.
Yep. If you stop fights so early, we will never get to see half the number of great fights. Professional fighters are supposed to be going to war in there. If fighters, or refs, can't handle the nature of the sport then take up badminton or curling or something. You can't turn a combat sport into a "safety first" event without killing what it is.
A corner can't stop the fight anymore by throwing the towel in,And " fighters getting hurt" isn't a statement to be used lightly mate look at so of the accidents that's happened to British boxers over the years, if you were there part of there family you'd be glad the boxer never took the final two or three punches which may make or the diffrence
clueless a ref is there to ref the fight and PROTECT the fighters! Protect yourself at all times the refs tell you, was de gales opponent doing that? No!!!nono
I do not want to see any fighter get seriously hurt, damaged or suffer later in life so if that came across as me taking it lightly I apologise. Also you'll never catch me on here calling fighters "bums" or "cowards" because the risks every fighter takes has to be respected. On Saturday if Foster let Periban get up then continued counting and then waved it off I could understand he may have seen something in his eyes or felt he was in no position to continue but he didn't even let him try and get up, didn't even have eye contact and was over him waving it off. A few more seconds and many could have understood, Foster did it with Froch Vs Groves and they ended up having a second fight because most people thought he stopped it too early. Foster has history. And take your old fighter Ricky Burns and his fight with Beltran, Burn's went down heavy and his jaw was broken, OK you couldn't X-ray him in the corner LOL but Ricky made it clear something was seriously wrong, was you thinking about his family then? And if so why didn't you pull him out? How many rounds did you push him through with a very serious injury? It is all if's and but's, nobody can see into the future. Your fighter got a chance to prove he could continue with a serious injury and with your encouragement he did so very bravely, I just think other fighters should have the same opportunity.
