[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zimV-vkp3M[/ame] A great fight to watch if you liked the Buchanan Laguna bouts, some serious technique in this one.I was reminded of it by Sweet's Jose Stable thread, as Luis was another fighter from that era that looked very good for a brief period of time before fading from the scene.
Excellent technical battle. I've seen pretty much all of the footage from this guy's channel and I'd say this is my favorite Winstone fight outside of Saldivar II. A great matchup of two different breeds of pure boxing. Winstone the textbook boxer/jabber/mover, Luis the smooth but technically efficient cutie, with a similar style to a lot of the Panamnian slicksters like the aforementioned Laguna. Luis was Cuban though, was he not?
Luis looks less herky-jerky than Laguna, though some similarities do exist. And Winstone was similar to Buchanan in several ways except for being slightly less durable with a slightly lesser dig. Oh for the fingertips....he was a better pure boxer than Buchanan though.
They have different strenghts and weaknesses.I think Kenny would have performed better against Saldivar and he was more physically gifted...also more of a unique stylist. Winstone could realy have been doing with a good punch with the way he fought, but he was just insanely accurate and technically sound.
