however great Pacquiao is, somebody’s going to beat him if he’s out there long enough

Read this little quote from Merchant and it got me thinking. Whether he fights Floyd or not, soon enough Pac is gonna end up losing to some guy he's not supposed to lose to.

It'll be really interesting to see who that guy is and how long it takes to happen.

"If he's out there long enough" is the key. How many fights does he have left? His next 2 will probably be Mosley and Cotto which are probable victories so unless floyd steps up and fights him or he chooses to fight marquez theres a good chance he might not lose again.

If he's out there long enough, it's likely he will lose, probably to someone he shouldn't really lose to.

If Mayweather finally steps up, I see him as the only one capable of beating Pacquiao at 147lbs.

But yeah, like bonds said...if Mayweather doesn't step up, Pacquiao may not lose before he retires in a year or 2.

  5. I agree. If Pac fights until he's 50, someone's bound to take him down.

    Silly little Merchant!

That pretty much goes for any fighter/team on top, etc. No one can be on top forever and sooner or later, father time, injuries or possibly the will to train that hard will become their undoing.

The only major fighter I can think of that retired and stayed retired undefeated was Rocky Marchiano. PBF retired a few years ago only to un-retire and take a few more fights and make some noise like he really wants to fight Pacman. I say get it done and see if that record of no losses stays in tact.

and then once ur beaten they say, 'u shoulda retired after this fight'...if u retire on top, they accuse u of being scared of someone...either way they gonna try to bring u down

Well in fairness he's already lost, he's obviously beatable, he won't be beaten if he continues to fight the kind of cats he's been fighting, but yeah if he's out there long enough to fight the young hungry guys from 140-154 yeah he will be beaten.

I have a feeling Pac is gonna take too many beatings once he retires and comes back again. Some guys are made for fighting and Pac is one of them. Not to mention i heard he loves to gamble and also is too kind for his own good giving money to leeches. I think he will retire and come back for money taking beatings from the young guns.

Otherwise guys like Alvarez, Benavides, Porter maybe even mike jones will be beating up on him to give him a payday.

I mean it seems to be the same story with popular boxers to retire then come back for the money and those guys seem to be the future around those weight classes.

I think your title should be "somebody's going to beat him if he stops picking opponents who stand no chance against him" so someone who hasn't been destroyed and humiliated with their last 2 fights.
