Tall, mobile, good chin. How's Tony Tucker Do, in amongst Charles, Walcott, Marciano etc? Do we see him favorably in that time?
Tony Tucker, although much bigger than machen, was pretty much slower than him and probably not as slick . I still think he puts a terrific fight with Liston. But Sonny prevail by decision, Liston-Machen all over again. A marciano/Tucker would likely look like Tyson/Tucker fight, but Rocky was not as skilled or as fast as Iron mike, and he could be cut. Tucker might outbox him, cut him to pieces and wins a TKO on cuts in their first fight. In a rematch, TNT dominate the rock early like he did in the first battle, but Marciano gets stronger and more dangerous as the fight goes on, attach himself to Tucker chest and beat the hell out of him and from then on, rocky take over. Tony's chin would save him from a KO but not from the judges. Marciano UD. My money would be on The rock to win the third and "the decider fight" by decision thanks to his MUCH greater will to impose his style on his opponent. (Tony was not really that great when it comes to talk about will and determination, at least not as great as Marciano). He might have beaten the rest, Ezzard would probably too small but i would never write him off. A loss against machen or the Zora Folley who beat Eddie isn't impossible.
A prime Tucker, focused and on track, beats Walcott, Moore and Marciano, all with little difficulty. Just too big, too slick and too strong.
No, his era was far, far, far better in terms of athletes who were in combat sports. Tucker dominates until Liston ambles into the scene. See how much you learned today?
He beat Douglas and went 12 with Tyson, so I assume Janitor means that Tucker would beat Ali and go 12 with Liston.
Depending on what part of the decade he peaks, he could have won the title. I can’t see him being a champion king how’re as he didn’t have the drive to give 100% in many of his fights.. I’d I’ve him a good chance at beating the aged Walcott and Charles. Possibly Patterson and Johansson too. Marciano I think would skip Tucker’s jab and outwork him to a decision albeit in a very tough fight. Eddie Machen’s boxing skills would give him trouble.
Tucker took quality shots from Tyson and Lewis later in his career and took them well. I don’t see anyone knocking him out. That being said I think most of the replies are the same and I agree with them... that Tucker would win a title out boxing Walcott, Charles and Patterson but he’d be taken to the well against Marciano in his toughest fight.
The only knock I have on Tony TNT Tucker besides his very stylish mullet is his lack of ambition, the middle initial does not fit him. Sure he could go the distance with some but that is all.
Difference between his era and the fifty s, is he managed to pick up a belt, at least. In the 50 s he's got the one title to shoot for. Walcott 50 /50 Charles, I'm leaning towards Ezz by split Dec. Marciano. I'll go with Rock unan decision. By know, Tony's getting on in years. He loses to Patterson by late Ko. By the time he meets a young ish Liston, he's getting beat in 4one sided round s.
Machen was slick indeed, but Tony still beats him. Marciano is too crude and small to stand a chance. He struggled with a bum like La Starza, Tony boxes his ears off.
