Truth touches the universal, something we can all recognize before we even see it.

before Tyson, I don't think anybody thought Tucker was any more of a risk to Spinks title at the time than Cooney or Tangstad.

Tucker was just a kid with in unbeaten record and a silly haircut. We had to wait to see him versus Tyson to see if his win over Douglas even translated into world level or not. Turns out it did. Nobody Knew this when Spinks was a champ. When he was unproven.

In fact It was a bit silly that the IBF had Tucker as a mandatory challenger to Spinks out of beating beating Otis Bates and James Broad!

Tony Tucker on cocaine lost two fights in his prime. To undefeated Mike Tyson and undefeated Lennox Lewis. There is nobody in the 50's who could beat Tucker. He would crush everybody who boxed back then.

Give me a break. Think of that kind of logic for one second. It doesn’t add up.

he only lost to Lennox Lewis and Tyson was because he was on cocaine?

you think he beats them otherwise?

    That’s kind of convenient.

Let’s say it was. Let’s say he only lost to Tyson and Lewis because he was on cocaine. All Tyson had beat at that point was Berbick and Smith. Could Tucker even beat Smith and Berbick? It’s probably only50-50.

who couldn’t beat the guys Tucker beat until then? Could Chuck Wepner lose to anyone Tucker beat before Tony Fought Tyson? How about Marvis Frazier?

How come Tucker didn’t fight more good fighters like Ruddock, Bowe, Smith. Tubbs, page, mercer, Witherspoon, truth Williams?

All anyone has to go on is that Tucker makes some kind of modern ideal. A tall guy with skills. But he really didn’t beat enough guys from his own era who wanted to win. In any era you have guys with statistically good records who never beat enough guys with winning records. Who wanted to win. Well, Tucker was one of those guys.

sure he beat Douglas. But it didn’t count for much when he beat him. And that’s all there is to it.

Put him in The 1950s and he has to win more competitive fights than he did in the 80s. Laugh at the size of the guys from the 50s all you want but those guys could beat guys who wanted to win. All of them. Tucker never did. He’s just one guy who never panned out in his own time.
