Undoubtedly talented but since twice defeating the formidable Veeraphol his standard of opposition, whilst not awful is not that great either. Where do people think he goes from here?
Apparently he's been struggling to make weight for a while - I read recently that he's considering jumping up two weight classes. I think this would be a great idea - not only does it open up a whole new list of opponents but he might even be matched tougher, if his handlers don't have to worry about him being overly effected by weight-draining. He's an excellent fighter and I think that he has to take on tougher opposition (in whatever weight class he's best suited to) to ensure he has a career worthy of his talents.
Its not great because the division isnt...He has beat opponants from all around the world and two pretty decent prospect at the time he beat them in Valdez and Malinga. My main concern is that traditionally Japanese fighters dont unify...which I would really like to see him do..And even if he bucked tradition (its not like they never do it, just rarely) the best fight out there cant happen. Perez's IBF belt wont be recognised in Japan, and not so sure Team Yhonny will be willing to give up their trinket and understandably. He might just be waiting to cash out with Kameda...I dont know.
You're way up on me in terms of the politics there, Rock. I had no idea Japan didn't recognize the IBF. Is that what you mean? That they don't recognize any IBF sanctioning or something specific to Perez?
They were saying on the scene that he might be staying put in his division a bit longer. Which means if true he's not interested in the challenge that Poonsawat offered him.
Nah they just dont sanction any WBO or IBF bouts...some talk of that changing recently but I dont really know.
