Hrgovic defeated Zhang. The commentators were very misleading and the ref favoured Zhang, giving him a knockdown from a push and denying Hrgovic his legit knockdown.
I don't remember the details perfectly, but it's not very often that I was this outraged at a decision. I had no horse in the race, expected hrgovic to win and was looking forward to seeing him perform to get an idea how far he can go. I actually had a private discussion going at the time where I backed hrgovic to go faster up the ladder than he eventually did. But that was not hrgovic's night. I remember so many clear heavy shots to his head. Zhang definitely had enough rounds to win that fight. The crowd was booing the decision (surely not zhang fans or biased by the commentators). And however we judge the knockdowns - the judges are advised to score them the way the referee calls them. Either way, that was a zhang win for me and hrgovic was only impressing me with his chin (even more so in hindsight by standing up to those punches much better than joyce, probably because he saw the punches a bit better)
Hrgovic is not a destroyer, victories are what matters, let's enjoy good fights and that's what matters...
No he didn't. He outboxed Zhang and won 7 rounds. Would have won 8 if it wasn't for the dodgy knockdown in the first.
I think that they are gonna pick Hunter, thinking he’s the easiest option. Which I personally think is a mistake. Hunter will be a hard hard fight for Wardley - he’s much more schooled and stylistically will not be as easy to find for the strong but somewhat crude Wardley as the other options floated.
Now I am interested. If you are willing to point the rounds out to me I will rewatch the fight and honestly check if I was wrong. i can't imagine it, but I am open to learning. Maybe some learning comes out of this.
