That Dorian Darch fight should never be forgotten, it's remarkable how all involved seemingly got away with that.
If by made little you mean millionaire then yeh hes skint, not bad for an area level fighter that cant even win the british title. Hes a likeable guy he will never be out of a job in ther media, even if its you tube level he never needs to fight again. He will do though he will add another million to his fortune before he retires.
He's refuted this many times and went into some of the purses he earned, minus promoter, manager, expenses, tax, etc. It might seem a lot of money even after all that, but he'll be a long time retired.
I think Sergio Martinez made something like $800 for being thrown under the bus against Margarito, which ended in his first defeat as he was nowhere near ready. Allen has done brilliantly out of boxing, whatever he's been paid, and deep down I'm sure he knows it.
Being durable enough to give more skilled fighters a full fight under the lights, is an asset in itself in boxing. When title contenders want a warm up they don't want their opponent quitting in 2-3 rounds. Allen would always ensure you got the rounds in. The Hrgovic fight shows that wear and tear is getting to him. Time to hang them up for sure, as Hrgovic is not even a puncher.
If Allen thinks he can just ‘win a British title’ as some kind of fallback option then he’s in for a rude awakening. In the last few years, Adeleye and Clarke have been beaten in Britsh title fights. Adeleye went 12 rounds with Hrgovic as opposed to Allen’s 3 and Clarke made Allen quit in 6.
I think it's gone against him already. TKV's style and similar weight issues might have helped Allen there; Riakporhe on a good night with accurate hitting would give Allen nightmares.
Retired from boxing yes, doesn't mean he can't or won't work after boxing. Not many men in their mid thirties have earned what Dave has, he's still got 30 odd years of working life left , wherever that may be.
The thing with Dave, and boxers in general I guess, is you don’t want to see them driven by financial need to have to come back in their late 30’s or 40’s. We’ve seen that story too many times and it rarely ends well. Personally, I think the plan should be get him and Bosh on the same undercards over the next 6-12 months, slowly build the trilogy and there’s probably an O2 sell out in it. They both get a proper payday and, ideally, get out of the sport healthy and wealthy. Ironically saw Bosh Snr on Monday. Think he was slightly shocked I walked past without asking for a selfie or even acknowledging him. Looked like he’d lost a few kilo’s too.
Yup, almost as much as a Chinese Hong Kong style with a side of ribs – which is ironic when authenticity is the sell.
Yeah agree. Before he landed the bingo shot I did wonder if RR was slowing a bit already, he was putting everything into his power shots... Could Dave drag him deep enough to task questions? Not sure to be honest. I think Allens time might be gone
