Are they waiting for Fury and Joshua to retire or what? Most champions win it by the age of 24-26 years old.
I think they still have enough time, I expect Hrgovic to fight some worth mentioning while Yoka has had really good opponents so far, I think the chances are good that they both get a titleshot, but it does not depend only on them...
Congestion at the top, was it two contenders to fight for HW belts this year (Fury and Pulev)? Four last year (Ortiz, Fury, Ruiz, and AJ), next year it's possible all the belts will be tied up with Fury-AJ. Plus they're not doing themselves any favors with the opponents they're fighting and what they've showed in those fights either. They looked fine against Booker and Duhaupas but there was no sense that these two were the real champs and need to be given an opportunity ASAP.
Because Top Rank and Matchroom are wanting to make the mega fight between Fury and Joshua....no one else will get a look in until one of those guys defeats one another.
28 isn't old for a heavyweight these days, though it's been 4 years since Rio and you'd normally expect top contenders to be on the brink of a title shot but Covid has perhaps put them back a year as 2020 has delayed their progression and Yoka of course had that ban for missed doping tests. Hrgovic is looking to step up soon and go the IBF route, so Hunter or Martin look like his best options for a step up, though he's going to struggle to get meaningful fights with no big following or money behind him so he might just very well have to keep waiting for his shot and take what few opportunities come his way until he's finally a mandatory because I don't see him easily getting a title shot otherwise. Yoka facing Duhapas and Hammer looks to be at least making some small kind of small step up and will no doubt that trend will continue in 2021. Also with Joshua/Fury likely tying up all of 2021 both these guys have time to keep developing and shouldn't see a title shot until at least 2022 unless of course the titles get splintered.
I would think stepup fights in 2021 and title shots in 2022 after the Fury/Joshua smoke has cleared. By then, Wilder, Povetkin, Whyte and the other current contenders will be on the way out. Probably Usyk by then too.
Hrgovic yet isn't enough highly ranked to demand a shot for World tittle. Even without covid era he should have some fights to boost his ranking and record. To get tittle shot and also better paycheck. With his current resume high purse for fight doesn't looks realistic. 28-34 y.o for HW is not old if fighter isn't damaged and didn't had long mileage under belt. Examples with fighters that had too long ammy mileage before turned into a pro are Rigo and Loma.
Hrgovic has like 10 or so fights under his belt and Yoka hasn“t even hit double digits yet. Both turned pro at 25 as well.
forget fighting for a title, have they even faced anyone from the top 10 yet? especially Hrgovic, he has already been annointed the heir apparent by the usual and predictable crowd. it's the millennial age, I guess 28 is no longer your prime years you are still being coddled by your handlers at that age. Hrgovic should have already scalped a Chisora or a Helenious at this point.
Both of 'em are probably packing glass and their handlers don't want to let 'em near any live bodies. That glass gets shattered, it's bad for the investment.
You have to be over 40 to be a mandatory these days. Or so it would seem for some of the alphabet orgs.
