This quote from Filip Hrgovic appeared in an article today:

“I feel ready to fight anyone in the world right now but, of course, I will need a few more fights to get into position to fight for the world title and the biggest names like Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder,” Hrgovic told --------------- in a recent phone interview from his home in Zagreb, Croatia. “But if you ask me I am ready right now. I spar with great champions, I had a great amateur career and I feel ready right now.”

Two articles down was another article announcing that he had signed to fight Andrej Pala, a fighter who hasn't fought in six years, and wasn't that good when he did.

Makes perfect sense to me. Pala today, Joshua tomorrow.

Don't even bother telling me its all he could get. We know Bakole was available, and people wanted to see that fight. If Hrgovic wants to fight champions, he needs to start acting like a contender. That is all.

Well... it takes two to tango, who knows if Bakole was ready to boogie or not.

Fair point, but is Pala really the only one willing to Tango? Or even the best dance partner in the room?

Yeah I do seem to recall Bakole's trainer on the British forum saying that they weren't offered enough money a little while back when Hrgovic's team offered them the fight (could be wrong).

To be fair to Hrgovic and I'm not on his hype train like a lot of people are, it might just be a tune up for another fight.

Probably not, he's a crap opponent for sure. But Joyce, Dubois, Fury, AJ, Usyk, Wilder are tied up at the moment. Sure he could take on a Kownacki or Martin, but who knows if they'd be down for a scrap eitehr.

Probably is just a warm up, and for the record, I'm not on his hype train either. He's good, but nothing special IMO.

Hopefully Hrgovic will fight after Pala again this year, on the Joshua-Pulev PPV card in December against a top 25 heavyweight.

They've already got another fight lined up for October I think.

Hrgovic is turning out to be a bit of a disappointment. I get that Covid has put a halt on pretty much everyone's careers, but Hrgovic just strikes me as being a bit all mouth no trousers. If he doesn't step it up soon I think the writing is on the wall with him as far as this red hot contender that people are labelling him.

I think you are on to it with the Covid thing. A bunch of boxers have lost momentum or have had plans put on hold.

I look at Hrgovic and see a guy that needs a few more fights at least. He is not without some talent but needs to improve his defense before taking on the best in the division.

He is willing to take shots to give shots. That is not a great strategy at HW. Ask Kownacki.

Yeah, I didn't like the way he just stood soaking up right hands from Molina in that stretch in the second. Sure, it was badass, and yeah he rolled with a lot of them, but it was an unnecessary thing to do and against a better quality of puncher it could lead to his undoing.

Besides that he just looks stiff and a bit average considering how high a lot of people are on the guy.

I like his confidence but at some point he's going to have to back it up. No doubt this whole pandemic has curtailed a lot of boxers plans for the year but boxing has returned and while one easy warm up is understandable if it becomes the norm people will lose faith and what little hype he's built so far will quickly fade away.

Yoka is fighting Duhaupas, Joyce and Dubois are looking to fight each other, while he's planning to fight a guy who last fought 6 years ago and got KO'ed by David Price. If Joyce beats Dubois he should look to make that fight happen if he's serious about making a title push any time soon.

Hrgovic has taken a step back in anything. He fought Molina last year, and had already taken out the likes of Kingpin and Mansour. Can't see what he'll gain from this other than activity. Which I suppose is better than sitting on his ass. The only positive I can take from this is that he has another fight lined up for October already. As many have said the bum crushing is less egregious if done frequently while waiting for a big fight to materialize.

He's packing glass; that's why he's avoiding live bodies.
