Hrgovic: Dubois won't be able to handle my punches, but if I lose, I won't get another chance.

    Hrgovic said,

I believe that in June I will become the world champion, the first Croatian in history in the heavyweight division. And then the doors of the whole world will open for me.

I've been calling out these fighters for years and I want a big fight. But it's a lot of pressure for me, because in case of defeat, I go back not ten, but 20 steps, and the question is when, as a Croat, a fighter from such a small country, will I get a chance on such a big stage.

Dubois has already received such an opportunity, but lost to Joe Joyce and Usyk.

I don't believe he will be able to block everything, and if he gets hit by so many punches, he won't be able to handle it.

Hrgovic has been shafted so many times with so called professional boxers ducking him.

The WBA has gone down the top 15 list 3 times over and not found a single man brave enough to face him to become number 1 contender. That says it all.

Yet you still have respected boxing people writing the man off

He will have too much for Dubois.

He only beat Zhang two years ago and that is his only fight at any kind of level.

Since then he's not done anything of note.

He needs to make a statement with Dubois and go the mandatory route.

He's right that it's a must win fight a loss is always a set back but if he's good enough he will get another chance. Yes Croatia is a small nation so he doesn't have much financial clout behind him but that was the same for Pulev and he got another crack at the title and even Joseph Parker comes from a nation with a tiny population and look at where he is now, look at the opportunities he's had to fight on the big stage again and again even though he's never been a big draw himself.

But I think he'll beat Dubois and then it's onto bigger fights.

Parker did an amazing job into fooling everyone he was a journeyman. Unreal what he's managed to achieve.

No one is really ducking him it's just there is bigger fights out there, and Hrgovic hasn't impressed nor is a big fight in terms of money or legacy at this moment.

The only known fighter hes fought is Zhang which was a highly controversial decision, and in his 2 last fights he stunk the joint out against McKean in a woeful display, And fought a 42 year old Mark De Mori who's mostly fought fighters with losing records and isn't world class.

Hrgovic has to start impressing at world level so he has a better claim to these big fights.

A dominant win vs Dubois would be a start.

I like the way you're talking, Croat man.
I like the visualisation work you're doing, imagining Dubious crumbling under your punches.
This I think would be an enjoyable spectacle for us, watching Dubious KO'd again after being bludgeoned.
There are a lot of bad things happening right now, but this is the kind of outcome that could bring joy and happiness to many people around the world.

Hrgovic didn't do himself any favors in his fight with Zhang. Its not surprising he doesn't have any pulling power to sell tickets.

He doesn't have a big mouth like Fury and he doesn't turn up at fights at big fights, so he doesn't get talked about. He shouldn't have to but that's what gets people talking.

He beats Dubois, hopefully in style to make a statement.

I don't think any of the top Heavyweights are avoiding Hrgovic out of fear of losing. It's not like Hrgovic is some bogeyman of the Heavyweight division, his stock plummeted after the Zhang fight, and whilst that fight does look a bit better with hindsight. Still Hrgovic has not really done anything of note to deserve a big fight as of yet.

I think dominating Dubois would be a step in the right direction, and then fighting the winner of Zhang/Parker 2 would be ideal and then let's see what happens from there.

I do blame Fury for this though for holding the Heavyweight division hostage.

Not much of a reward though is it. I mean the IBF first ordered eliminators way back in Feb 2021. Fight Hrgovic get a mandatory shot....2024? Mandatories can take years these days to be enforced and with so many belts there's always 3 other options for getting into a mandatory position, so it really isn't much of an incentive for opponents to fight Hrgovic for. If anything I think the IBF mandatory may have hampered his ability to secure better opponents as the IBF rules mandate the purse split in eliminators which meant fighters that were bigger draws wouldn't entertain taking he fight from a financial perspective.

I agree Hrgovic has stagnated. I had him as my top prospect from Rio when he crushed Mansour and Molina, he was head and shoulders above Joyce and Yoka at that time in terms of opposition he had beaten but then it all went wrong and he can't even blame lack of promotional pull as he was signed to Matchroom. Other than Zhang he hasn't beaten anyone of note and even the Zhang fight going in, nobody really rated Zhang. Hrgovic was made to look bad and Zhang's stock rose from that defeat.

I don't think this fight will go to the cards, both hit too hard and are too easy to hit, someone is getting chinned my money is on Dubois getting stopped again.

I think the issue with Heavyweight division today is no one is active enough apart from maybe Joshua recently.

Fighters like Ruiz didn't build on the Ortiz win and now hes been inactive and forgotten.

Hrgovic as you said has stagnated aswell he needs 1 or 2 stand out performances to build his profile, because casual boxing fans only remember him for the controversial win over Zhang.

Agreed, fighting twice per year simply isn't enough unless you are already an established draw, it leaves too much time between fights and fans these days have short attention spans, unless you are doing something to stay in the forefront on fans minds then you'll become an after thought.

Yes Hrgovic should have built on the Zhang fight, especially after Zhang beat Joyce, it altered how some people viewed their fight and that would have been the prime time to have taken a fight and made a statement, then call out some big names. Instead he waited 4 months and gave a luck lustre performance against McKean.

It's infuriating watching fighters sabotage their own careers like this. I recall when Tarver beat RJJ, instead of immediately taking another fight when everyone was talking about him, he went MIA for 8 months and then returned only to lose to Hopkins. Andre Ward too, wins Super 6, is the man of the moment, takes a 9 month holiday and refuses to fight Bute and unsurprisingly never became any kind of draw due to long periods of inactivity. He'd come back, put on a great show, then would disappear again often for more than a year between fights and would wonder why fans didn't take to him.

Really too bad if it's Dubois instead of Joshua.
