I think even with the flaws he has he is a good fighter, better than most seem to take him for. He’s a really good point-fighter and damn near impossible to knock out, I don’t see many beating him.

But I agree with you when it comes to his potential, he SHOULD be a lot better with some minor fixing but its just not happening. He can lose weight and lean fully into the point-fighting aspect, or keep the weight and learn how to step into his shots better and keep his hands up more, but he’s just doing the same things over and over again. I get the feeling that he is surrounded by yes men.

    Your last point.

"The problem is, ego prevents a lot of guys from committing to fight that way - most of them are used to being the biggest and scariest guy in the room, and the idea of training to be an athlete instead of the scariest guy possible often doesn't appeal to them"

This is a very very good point.

Hmm, I tend to go the other way...

He's not bad, but he's generally overrated - lacking the KO power to stop anyone near the top of the tree and despite being an okay points fighter his poor gas tank means he doesn't win on cards against anyone who doesn't have a similar problem (eg: Zhang).

Exactly - I don't think he'd ever be a KO artist, but he could become more like Parker in terms of effectiveness and potential to beat contenders if he could fix that stamina problem... But it's not showing any signs of happening.

I think he's destined to remain the durable gatekeeper type I have him down as now - the limitations just don't really make for much potential to be more.

Certainly... And I think AJ, for example, could've had a good second career as that kind of more athletic points fighter - I just don't think ego would allow him to commit to it, with the consequences we saw against Dubois.

He is kind of like Joyce, they are slow handed so have to throw arm punches to land anything lol
They still hit pretty hard with arm punches mind you but when they really throw hard shots they can crack

Hrgovic has a great chin. It is a different kind of chin to the one of peak Joyce because Joyce walked through the punches like a terminator as if they weren't doing a thing to him. Hrgovic on the other hand looks like he's vulnerable. I wonder how long it will be under his chin cracks.

I wasn't listening closely but in the hype before the fight one of the commentators asked Hrgovic something about Adeleye saying he could knock out a horse. To which Hrgovic replied:

    "I am stronger than horse."

This dude wasn't bull****ting, it seems.

Legit one of the best fights of the card and of the year maybe. Two absolute classic moments (the knockdown and Hrgovic taking shots that should kill a man) and I like seeing the little touches of Abel Sanchez in Filip now.

    Dubois-Hrgovic is the grudge match.

Aye, that's a worrying trend - when durability is one of his fortes, the fact he seems like cuts are becoming a problem (even if he's able to fight on, it depends how much he's allowed to) means stoppage losses are back on the menu even if he can't be knocked out.

Hrgovic hasnt scored a knockout at the title level but he can clearly hit hard and hits harder then Parker, Usyk and Kabayel. I guess at his size hes supposed to hit harder but a lot of top SHWs don't "hit hard" for that size because the guys that do tend to rely on it and not get good enough to reach this level.

Carnera probably hits harder but this might be Carnera situation where hes got real power but throwing bombs just isn't what he does. Unlike Carnera Hrgovics top opponents have been a minimum of 240 pounds. Not exactly light targets nor have any of Hrgovics top opponents had bad chins where you expect them to go down in a big fight.

Hrgovic clearly doesn't hit the hardest but among the top HWs theres not a lot of power guys. If Usyk can have an extended reign I don't see it really being something thats going to hold him back that much.

The fact he didn’t see them coming and still stayed up makes it all the more impressive. Imagine Dillian Whyte trying to take even ONE of those. Lol :lol:

I’ve called Hrgovic basically a Great Value Vitali when he first turned pro. I jumped the gun a little bit on that. lol And that’s NOT meant to be a jab on Filip but let’s face it… Vitali was A FEW levels above him. But chin wise… his chin is absolutely Vitali level I think. His punches in a way kind of remind me of Vitali too although Vitali did hit a little harder.

Yes, Adeleye has legit one shot KO power and not only did he catch Hrgovic flush with massive left hook single shot counters which were HL reel KO shots but he caught him with sequences of flush left and right hooks in quick succession in round 8 which very few HWs would've been able to remain vertical or conscious after shipping

The left hook counter he buzzed Hrgovic with in round 3 was perfectly timed and delivered but it just bounced off Hrgovic's jaw and Hrgovic even managed to slip the follow up left hook

Left hook counter at the start of the video and then more again from 1:58

    To add some perspective

This is the kind of power Adeleye wields in that left hook

Obviously this was on the break but it wasn't even close to full power

I saw the interview where he said that. He's actually a pretty funny guy and that was a quick-witted, amusing and seemingly accurate riposte

Yes, Big Joe Joyce, contrary to what some believe, also hits hard when he actually sits down on his shots
