WBA #9, IBF #9, WBC #11 heavyweight Filip Hrgovic (10-0, 8 KOs) manhandled and stopped 37-year-old two-time former world title challenger Eric Molina (27-6, 19 KOs). 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Hrgovic floored Molina in round two with a body shot and put him down for the count with a right to the head in round three. Time was 2:03. Key points. The same Molina went 9 rounds with Wilder. I have not seen this one yet, but my hunch is Hrgovic was more impressive vs Molina than Joshua was. Some might say, yeah but Molina was 37. He was 33 for Wilder. Either way, Hrgovic's alphabet rankings are on the rise and Ring Magazine will have him in the top ten by 2020. I'll give props to the first world belt holder that give him a shot, but I hope it's Wilder.
Hrgovic looks the real deal to me. He is ready for a title shot but he is going to need to force himself into mandatory position. I cannot see any of the belt holders voluntarily choosing to face him. I hope he doesn’t have to wait too long for a title shot.
It matters when you fight people. Still he did what he had to do. Let's move him up to a top 10 guy now. No point waiting any more.
There are guys like Breazeale, Jennings and Takam who fight anyone for decent money, so one of those should be next.
Should we use a 40 year old Ortiz who was out boxing him? Or how about a 39 year old Stiverene who was out of the ring for a while? Wilder fans would be wise not to talk age, and that's who he likes to pick. But above all else Wilder has ZERO wins over a top ten opponent in his prime. When he fights some and wins, then he'll get the respect he's lacking. Of course he could he taking the count too.
Stop! Wilder was a different fighter back then when he fought molina he's fallen in love with his power and looks for the one shot ko. Molina was also a better fighter when he fought wilder. I shouldn't have to explain that to you.
No you STOP. Wilder fights like he doesn't want to get hit, and that is why Molina lasted as long as he did. His power in that fight and his last fight were the same. He's very smart on who he doesn't pick as opponents.
