It's always interesting seeing how different fighters do or don't get rated around here... And, IMHO, it often has very little to do with how good they really are, or have proven they are, and more to do with how much people enjoy watching them and/or feel like they're backing a winner. If it was a points equation, then: Points would be gained for: - High KO percentage - Early KO's - 0 losses - Hypejobs on resume Points wouldn't be lost/gained for: - Ducking - Fighting primarily low level fighters ("bums") - "Weight bullying" (dehydrating massive amounts to make weight against guys much smaller than the fighter). - High skill levels, footwork, etc. Points would be lost for: - Multiple losses, regardless of how good the opponent was - Low KO percentage, even if wins on points are dominant. - Perceived questionable chin - even if never knocked out - Excessive hugging. Bonus - mega points would be gained for beating previous favourites of the poster in question. (This seems to be the one thing that redeems certain fighters who shouldn't be popular but somehow are!)
It's entirely consistent with what I was saying at the time - Joyce was always slow and far too hittable, fringe contender tops... Zhang just happened to be a big enough hitter to put him down.
I'd have massive respect for Dubois if he pulls this one off. Often mocked but only lost against two good opponents and would be a great statement/recovery.
@Rumsfeld I missed this thread initially, although had I seen it, this would've been the post I put on it.
