I think he has actually regressed. In addition to his stellar amateur career where he fought and beat a lot of the best SHWs in the world and is one of the few SHWs not to have been stopped, knocked out or even dropped IIRC, which includes fighting many opponents who knocked out or stopped his peers like AJ, Big Joe Joyce, Big Bang, Wallin, Yoka, Mak among others, a huge part of his reputation comes from his work in the gym sparring the best pros, most while he was still a young amateur. Like stopping Dubois, more than holding his own against a 28-0, roughly 28 y/o old Dosser, inflicted a cut on David Haye's eye which forced the cancellation of Haye vs Belly. And giving Wlad very good work. Hence why many within the trade rate him highly.

I can't remember his exact words now but David Haye said something to the effect that he never would've believed Hrgovic would be in the position he is today or looking how he does now had you told him that all those years ago when he sparred him, as in he expected him to be the future of the division and to be a world champion by this time

Regarding him looking like he doesn't want to be in there sometimes, I think that's partly to do with the frustration he feels with how his career has panned out. I think the thought of quitting the sport has probably crossed his mind numerous times. Don't forget he's based over in the US and has been on his own over there a lot of that time. I suspect he'd much rather be back home in Croatia surrounded by his friends and family. That would be another positive of him hooking up with say a Shane McGuigan. London is only a short flight away from Croatia.
