My problem with BOTH Hrgovic and Fury is that they have a lot of unneccesary fights. At least with Fury, we more or less know what he can do: he can outbox one of the most technically skilled boxers of all time, he can have a dogfight with one of the most dangerous punchers of all time. He can continue fighting with half of his face split open. To stop him, you have to knock him unconscious, otherwise he will get back up.

But with Hrgovic, we have no idea. Is he in the top 10 based on the eye test? Probably. But the question is, is he barely hanging in the bottom or is he a danger man that terrifies the champs? We have no idea. He certainly doesn't have that X factor to his game, much like Vitali Klitschko didn't have it. He just seem all round solid, sort of jack of all trades. The only thing that's lacking a little seems to be defense, but he seems to be the kind a fighter who can make improvements. I just wished he stepped up already. My personal opinion is that he's a (much) better version of Kurbat Pulev minus the epic jab. I think he can pick up a belt but i don't believe he will be the man of the division.

Hrgovic says he wants to fight again this year.

It would be a good idea to add him to the Joshua-Pulev card, perhaps against Chisora or Hunter, who are probably both willing to fight.

Either of those guys represents a step up and would be a good test.

I know he's only 28 still but it does feel odd they're not moving him on. As you say, Fury was already champion at that age and Joshua was too. I wonder if they're waiting until Fury and/or Joshua retire possibly after their fight(s) and/or show visible signs of decline before moving him on.

I expect his management see him fighting it out with the likes of Dubois for world titles longer term. He's not the same generation as Fury/Joshua.

Hrgovic, Makhmudov, Ajagba , Frank Sanchez , Dubois , Joyce , Jared Anderson, it will not be easy for him.

I think he would have to beat a top 50 fighter before we talk about it.

Chisora v Hrgovic is the obvious fight to be made here.

Classic gatekeeper V prospect fight. Hrgovic likely to come through but be tested more than he has been thus far. Added bonus, we get to compare Hrgovic's performance to Usyk's.

    Oh dear.

Another thread where you just won’t allow for circumstances.

Hrgovic's resume after 12 fights is better than AJ's. In fact, the guy he fought on his pro debut was AJ's 12th opponent. And Hrgovic's resume is better than Fury's after 12 fights too and obviously Bootleg D's and it's not like he and his management haven't been calling for big names for a while now and they say lots of fighters have turned down fights against him.

Yep up to now he's been fighting the level of guys he should be fighting which is journeymen. But he does need to move up now, he's gaining nothing from these easy blow outs and if he really does want to position himself into title contention he's going to have to earn it as it's unlikely he's going to get a voluntary title shot as he's all risk with no reward.

If he continues just fighting cans then he's just going to get a rep as being protected, it's been OK up til now but this is the point when people expect him to step up. Joshua fought journeymen for his first 12 fights then he took a step up vs Johnson, then fought the undefeated Cornish and then Whyte. Fury stepped up in his 15th fight to fight Chisora. Both Dubois and Joyce are stepping up now too and facing each other so these next 12 months is when people will expect Hrgovic to do the same.

Yeah I'm sure he will be stepping up very soon and like I said both he and his team have been calling for the bigger names for a while now. Some of those videos are like a year old or or close to it IIRC.

What are you talking about? Fury knew the Wilder fight was off for a while. He could have had a plan B in place but waited it it to low ball a fighter most never heard of. Fury was shopping for title opponent since October.

Kabayel appears to be his pick. He's not close to ring magazine ranked, box rec for example has him at #37 in the world. Kabayel is too short and can't punch hard enough to bother Fury. That's why he was picked.

The lineal heavyweight champion of the world has fought the following since winning it.

Wallin, Schwartz, Pianeta, and Seferi. Only Wilder was an acceptable lineal title defense. Let me guess, circumstances prevented him from picking better opponents, right?

    What a joke you are.

He has developed. I have seen the fights.

Hrgovic has fought the best in the gym. Wlad. Haye who be beat on and cut, and Wilder, all as an amateur.

He has been offensive minded since his early amateur days at age 19 and 20 going up against grown men, and cleaning up in the world series of boxing.

While I do think he can develop further, I also think he's trying magazine top 10 ready right now, His manager said they will be going the IBF path as its the most open.

    Current IBF ratings:

    1 KUBRAT PULEV BULGARIA
    2 CHARLES MARTIN UNITED STATES
    3 OLEKSANDR USYK UKRAINE
    4 MICHAEL HUNTER UNITED STATES
    5 ANDY RUIZ JR MEXICO
    6 FILIP HRGOVIC CROATIA
    7 JOSEPH PARKER NEW ZEALAND
    8 TOM SCHWARZ GERMANY
    9 AGIT KABAYEL GERMANY
    10 TONY YOKA FRANCE

He should target Pulev next if he somehow beats Joshua or Charles Martin, beating him and obtaining the mandatory.

If those two won't sign, then Usyk or Hunter a win over ether and he passes Martin.

Like most alphabet ranking, these are junk but that's the politics in front of him.

    You are the joke.

Of course circumstances prevented him from picking better opponents.

He was out for over 3 years, where he binged on drugs and alcohol, where many people thought that we’d never see him in a ring again. It took him more than a year just to lose the weight, in order to come back and fight anybody.

So UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, fighting Seferi and Pianeta was absolutely fine.

Who the hell did you expect him to fight after having 3 years out and losing around 10 stone??

He then fought Wilder when not at 100%.

He then signed a 5 fight deal with ESPN, where Arum wanted to showcase him in the U.S. in order to build up the Wilder rematch to make it a bigger fight than the first one. And that’s what’s happened. He fought Wilder in a rematch, putting in a great performance.

We’ve then had Covid and Wilder doesn’t want to fight.

Meanwhile, Joshua is obligated to fight his mandatory against Pulev.

Sure, Kabayel is a low level fighter. But it’s just a keep busy fight whilst Joshua fights.

If they both come through the fights, then all the signs are there that they’ll meet at some point next year.

So who cares if he fights a tune up if we get the Joshua fights?

Come back and complain if he fights Kabayel and then 2 other low level instead of Joshua.

As it stands, there’s nothing to moan about. Let him have a tune up so there’s no excuses of ring rust etc.

My point is since winning the lineal title over a 39 year old Wlad Klitschko, Fury has fought the following:

Wilder, Wallin, Schwartz, Pianeta, and Seferi. Only Wilder was a top opponent. If Wilder fights again will be labeled a fraud, if he isn't already with this costume and loaded glove excuses. Toss out Pianeta, and Seferi if you must this not worthy of the lineal heavyweight champion of the world!

Yes, Wilder doesn't want to fight so why not fight someone better than Kabayel who we both agree is low level? That is what I'm saying. By constant cherry picking of guys ranked between 30-50 of the world, Fury is ripping off the fans. Three of Fury's last four fights ( Including Kaybel ) have been vs low level opposition. Too much . You say come back and complain if Fury fights 2 other low level types. My point, he already has! I don't expect much for his next fight after Kaybel either.

Joshua is at least fighting currently ranked top 10 opposition.
