Highly rated Welterweight prospect Teerachai was stopped in 3 rounds by a journeyman! I know some on here don't look at bouts outside of America and Europe but the 20 year old former Kick Boxer was seen as a champion in the making. http://www.boxingprospects.info/10/post/2012/05/may-3rd.html
Bed Left Hook had mentioned him in an article back in 2010 (http://www.badlefthook.com/2010/10/23/1652927/whos-coming-in-the-welterweight-division) and they seemed pretty big on him
Lmao Thailand! The only country were, say, matching a champion with a debuting fighter is frequent and rampant, just to pad their fighters/prospects records. Sooner or later, it can bite their asses back, and it did in this case--though this is not really "huge" (outside of Thailand) as you seem to believe.
In this case? Teerachai wasn't fighting a debutant just a journeyman. Then again as with most boxing fans it's unlikely you watch stuff from outside of the "key" boxing areas of the USA, Mexico, Britain and Germany and as a result miss out on a huge number of very talented fighters such as Tepparith Singwancha
I've been to Thailand and have watched a couple of fights there live. Trend of pitting world-class fighters with journeymen and debuting fighters is common there (just to either pad their fighters' records and/or as a stay-busy fight) it is almost criminal. The point is that bouts among fighters with wide discrepancies in terms of resume, experience and qualifications is not uncommon there. Karma is catching up on those unscrupulous promoters and matchmakers in this particular example you shared.
Teerachia isn't "world class" just a hotly tipped prospect, it's little different to putting Demetrius Andrade in with Grady Brewer (which American promoters did last year) or putting Gerber in with Harris (as German promoters are doing this weekend) heck it's little different to Alvarez v a shot to **** Mosley...
You seem to miss the point but hope you get the drift. Arguing over semantics is futile so I'd let that go.
Well I've lived in Thailand for over a decade an am an ex fighter who knows the scene pretty well. The bit from your post that I've highlighted isn't criminal, it's not correct. Most of the so called Thai journeymen and debutants as you call them have already had possibly upwards of 100 pro Muay Thai bouts previous to turning over to international boxing. These are seasoned fighters that had more ring savy by age 14 than many western pros have by time they are 30, hence the occasional upset. The reason some of these "hotly tipped" prospects are matched against a slew of unnamed fighters is to help them transisiton over form Muay Thai to boxing smoothly, against ring tested foe almost on the job training as they have to unlearn years of ingrained Muay Thai habits in favour of new boxing skills, not easy and harder to do in the ring in the middle of a competitive bout. And I don't buy the karmic action sentence either cos if you know Thailand at all you'll know the fight scene is a well oiled machine that churns out fighters relentlessly which is part of the problem in terms of shitty promoters cos if one fighter falls by the wayside there's always five more to take on. And I thik it's safe to say this is reasonable big boxing news in Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Australia, The Phiipines etc. etc. Nations that fight in the PABA.
