Hughie Fury - never has faced a top fellow brit hw

I think he was earmarked to fight Haye if he beat Parker. I think Hughie is too high risk low reward due to his lack of activity and not been known to the casuals

 

Hughie Shades of Ali Fury beat Sam Sexton for the British title so can’t be accused of ducking the domestic route.

The problem with Hughie is he’s had a steep learning curve at a young age, touted to be a World Champ, but realistically he’s performed somewhere between British and World level.

It’s what the above poster said he’s high risk low reward so he’s avoided by the aforementioned higher profile British heavies who know he’ll be a hard nights work and make them look bad even if they get the W.

 

I get what you’re saying it would boost his resume if he beat someone like that but Chisora had only come out of retirement for the Fury payday and Whyte wouldn’t fight Hughie as it’s not worth his time he wants million dollar paydays and he probably ain’t getting that with Hughie.

 

He'd beat both of them comfortably as well I reckon.

 

If you can’t beat Paint Dry Parker or shot Povetkin then you ain’t world level. It would be nice to see him face the other British level HWs. Not Whyte or Chisora, but some actual contenders.

But we will see where he goes from now with 3 losses on his record every time he has stepped up. He doesn’t fight very often, and often uses health as an excuse for such inactivity.

 

I still can't figure out the scorecards in the Parker bout. He won that comfortably.

 

Going the distance with Parker, pulev and povetkin shows he’s good enough to be in with fighters at this level. He just needs to be more aggressive. I’d like to see him in with whyte

 

Poorly managed. Never beat a top 30 opponent and was put 3 times against a legit top 5 or 10 opponents in Parker, Pulev and Povetkin. Lost all 3 convincingly.

I believe he has the ability to be a top 10 fighter but he has to go up gradually in levels. Styliscally Hughies is the guy in the divison most like Tyson Fury except Hughie has better defence and a much better chin.

 

Not sure it's really an "excuse" he's genuinely had health issues throughout his career.

He's just an ugly technical fighter who doesn't really appeal to casuals, has no real fanbase and brings very little financially to the table. Fight Hughie and you are in for a very tough night and will probably come out looking bad and likely to take a lot of punishment. You are talking about a guy who has taken Parker and Povetkin (A-level heavyweights) to close decisions, shown he can go to the trenches against Pulev if required and pretty much impossible to put down. He made mincemeat out of Euro-level contenders like Hamer, Rudenko and Wach so imagine what he would do to the likes of Wardley or Dubois. He is a fighter you take a fight against only if you are forced too for example an eliminator for a world title. In some way's he is the ultimate gatekeeper. Any fighter who actually calls him out voluntarily and fights him I would have the upmost respect for, not seen it yet though and unlikely to see it in the future.

 

Are we saying that Sam Sexton wasn't a top Brit? He was unbeaten in 6 years prior to his failed defence of his British title, against Shades Of Ali, which he won from Gary Cornish who himself only had 1 defeat on his glittering record, against Ali mk2.
