So the Dominican banger - coming off his 2nd best ever career result with a mild upset TKO10 over Marcin Rekowski (and boasting a blitz KO1 destruction of former champ Oleg Maskaev in 2009) - is certainly in a higher class than most of the competition faced thus far by Tyson Fury's younger cousin. He's still, however, part of a run of now four in a row constituting a major regression after Hughie widely outpointed Ukrainian fringe contender Anridy Rudenko, becoming the first man to defeat him convincingly as many feel Rudenko was robbed in his UD12 loss to Lucas Browne. That should have been a springboard for Hughie, but in what is becoming par for the course for Team Fury judging by their handling of Eddie Chambers, the choice appears to have been made to feast on significantly outmatched foes to pad up the numbers and creep up the rankings biding time for a payday. Shame, as Hughie is a talented young heavyweight and probably better served with a steady progression of challenges to aid in his development to ready him for the big chance when it comes.

There have been no red flags signaling enough doubt in his punch resistance to suggest Hughie is even staring down the barrel of a "puncher's chance" from Aguilera. He is a superior fighter in every sense to Rekowski, and the only real question here is whether he can halt Nagy (which only Sam Peter and Chris Arreola have managed, with those who failed including Gerald Washington, Dominic Breazeale, Antonio Tarver and Tomasz Adamek) - and getting the KO would be the only way to read much value into this addition to his résumé. Even a quick and savage KO is probably not enough to put it even on a par with the UD10 over Rudenko.

Peter Fury did say they tried hard to get better opposition than this and I do believe him but they could of found a worse opponant. Its turning into a good card without all the glitz and glamour and world title fights.

But i think that will be his 17th fight? If they really want to progress Hughie they need to step him up from now on.

I think Hughie can get rid of Aguilera if he fancies the job.

Pretty good step up. Aguilera was unlucky not get the nod against Washington, gave DB hell, and of course stopped and upset Rekowski. All things considered performance wise Aguilera is on the best stretch performance wise of his career. I think Hughe can force the stoppage here too if he wants to make a statement he does have SOME pop when he decides to actually sit down on his punches, but I wouldn't be shocked that if when and if he buzzes/hurts Aguilera he lets him off the hook like he's made a habit of doing against some of his more durable and higher class opponents.

I just don't trust Aguilera's durability really (and don't hold Washington or Breazeale in very high esteem). Hughie is a very different fighter stylistically than either Peter or Arreola, both heavy-handed clubbers, but he's better than either of them overall and like you said can do some damage when he sits down on punches.

Even the "new and improved" Nagy shouldn't be able to withstand a sustained and dedicated attack from Hughie if he elects to force the issue. Whether or not he does, though, is definitely in question.

Is there anyone that wouldn't strongly favor Rudenko over Aguilera? :think

Aguilera has, Big O aside, fought half a dozen credible names and lost to all six. Two are unbeaten American hype jobs (both VERY mediocre), two are blown up and past-prime cruisers without much real crunch at HW, and the other two smashed Aguilera up. Peter in his day is regarded as having the ability to knock anyone out any given night, fair enough, but Arreola was never really that kind of puncher despite being marketed that way. Fury has twelve rounds to do the job here and not doing it would be a disappointment.

Hahaha who actually started the 'Hughie has worms rumour' was it someone on here lol

I actually think most people belevie it now due to the fury's being so secretive about it

I don't see the need to rush Hughie at all, he's 21 years old without an extensive amateur background, who cares about his level of opposition at the moment. All this talk of Hughie vs AJ/Wilder/Whyte etc is nonsense, they're all closer in terms of age and experience to Tyson Fury than Hughie Fury. People need to relax.
