They have clarified. He has some disease that gypsies are prone to (I forget the name) that is similar to Crohn's disease. Basically it affects his digestion and eating various foods makes him ill. The disease isn't going away, but the Fury's are apparently controlling it by putting Hughie on a strict diet.

They basically said it's a disease travellers are prone to getting and has all the symptoms of worms, its a nice way of saying travellers are prone to worms
