Hughie weighed 247lbs against Wach and he's been doing a lot of S&C work of late. I've been saying for years that he needed to come in heavier and work on his strength and punching power because he's 6'6'' and I remember how he still looked in shape and moved well when he was coming in between 238-247 earlier on in his career. Hughie's got one of the best chins in the division and even when he was coming in as low as 218½ and 224 against Peter and Povetkin respectively he barely blinked when caught shots from the later, shots which landed right on the money and were perfectly timed, and IIRC Peter, who weighed a whopping 261, caught him with a huge right hand over the top which he launched all the way back from Nigeria and he ate it up no problems. Wach caught him with plenty of big shots and he ate all those up no problems too despite the fact that Wach had a full camp to prepare for him and weighed 271. Parker can whack but he couldn't hurt him either IIRC albeit I can't remember how many times he caught him clean because Hughie employed the slick American style in that one which is less gypsy slick and more track meet slick and had Hughie been American his performance would've been hailed a masterpiece over there. But like his cousin Tyson his gypsy slickness wouldn't desert him even if he came in at 400lbs, so him coming in at close to 250 is a good thing IMO.
Despite the loss, I think Dubois has more than enough to deal with Hughie. Joyce was just all wrong for him
Didn't know Hughie weighed 247lbs against Wach. I've always thought that at 6'6" he looked scrawny coming in at 220. Wondering why can't he come in at least in the 230-240 range. Was he uncomfortable at higher weights? From what Serge is saying apparently not. The higher weight won't diminish his good chin, and if his movement and engine are good at the higher weights Hughie might be a tougher opponent for many HWs. Hughie-DD would be an intriguing fight with no clear favorite.
