6 months after turning pro, at 19 years old Hughie Lewis Fury is 11-0.

18 months in after turning pro, at 27 David Price was just 8-0 fighting Raman Sukhaterin who was 6-15 and had lost 5 of his last 6.

Not wanting to kick a man when he is down and out, but what was Maloney playing at ... What was his plan?!

Price should have been handled much better because let's face it.. he has the amateur pedigree and he hits like a train.

He went from knocking domestic opponents out left right & centre to jumping in with a seasoned savvy HW who at the time had only been beaten by Wlad (excluding the points defeat when he first turned pro). The gulf in class was to big a jump, he should have been brought on better.

Hopefully he can bounce back, get himself sorted and on the right track.

It's the money the top ams are getting paid, it's holding them back because they can't fight on small shows, they need to be on a massive bill to help pay there wages!

    What are they on?

I'm sure I read Joshua was on 50k a year as an amateur, something along those lines?

I'm not 100% on there wages but your degales & prices would of been on 100k plus for there 1st fight whereas your average half decent am would be on anywhere from 1k to 10k per fight for there 1st few!

There has been decent money in the amatuers for a while especially pre-Olympics not sure of the figures seem to remember reading 30k+ a year expenses on top food allowance & travel.

The GB team's showing has meant the funding is still pretty decent how it goes in the future we will see.

Price went from fighting domestic level opponents to a world ranked experienced pro too big a jump Maloney not for the first time rolled the dice & came up short.Poor management.

Hughie has fought blokes that look like they've been picked out of the pub at closing time.

Yet almost all have been better than Price's first 9 opponents.

Look at three of the last 4:

    - Dorian Darch won 7 of his 8 bouts
    - Shane McPhilbin, former Commonwealth champ
    - Ivica Perkovic, went the distance with Ustinov and Dimitrenko this year. KD'd Dimitrenko. Hughie stopped him in 4.

Fury is also only 19 :good

Hughie is being moved along pretty well.. Despite his talk of breaking Tysons record, I don't think we'll see him step in with world level guys for at least another year or two. He's 19 and has plenty of time to learn. I would like to see him face some decent domestic heavies next year though.

Any AM who gets an Olympic contract gets an annuel salary of £41,950. A lot of seasoned pros won't earn that in a year. I'd be very surpirsed if somebody as well known and seasoned as Derry Mathews earned that last year.
