Hughie Lewis Fury smashes Povetkin

Yes. Remember the disgraceful showing he put in against Pulev who was a far better matchup for him. Never picking him in a big fight again. Hes come up short every time and will fall short of the mark again 2 days from now.

 

First off backing Povetkin to beat Hughie by KO, or points.

Povetkin is pretty much 40 now, so he’s going to lose to someone he would of previously beat sooner, rather than later. It could very possibly be against Hughie.

Hughie winning by KO though, I very much doubt it, his KO ratio is very poor even against sub-standard fighters.

 

Hughie Fury is starting to remind me of Chuck Wepner, without the cuts. Tall, clumsy, clinches way too much, gets hit too much. He hits kind of hard, but his fights become frustrating and dirty. He mainly uses his long arms to club and then clinch. There were large sections of the Pulev fight that reminded me of Ali-Wepner - with all the holding and rabbit punching, and headbutting and just sloppiness.

Even Sam Peter just seemed to have enough of it and quit (like he's prone to do these days).

I don't know what to make of Hughie Fury. Not fun viewing, that's for sure.

Initially went for Fury and TBH Povetkin is coming to the end, but looking at the final head to head there isn’t as big a size difference as I initially expected.

Also Pulev handled Fury well enough and Povetkin is still better than Pulev.

 

I actually felt Pulev was going to be a bigger challenge for him as Hughie basically relies on being able to keep people at range, which is fine for Pulev who has a decent reach and jab of his own. Povetkin is a lot shorter and less rangy than Povetkin and Hughie loves a good run or cuddle approach which a British ref probably won't punish.

I really don't know what to expect, but I wouldn't rule this out as being Fury's coming out party - albeit the kind of party where you sleep through it.

 

Povetkin is one of my favorite boxers and in my eyes he has two weaknesses at his age. Stamina and ability to take punches. If Fury has trained properly he'll be able to go to distance, not sure about povetkin. Once caught well, Povetkin will start shaking quite early. Despite his brutal victory against Price, he was heavily breathing after the 5 rounds and once caught he completely lost his balance . Similar in the Joshua fight, where he struggled with stamina from round 4 on. And there again it was one good punch by Joshua that ended the fight. He's just too old to continue after getting hit well, an early lucky punch could beat him after 3-4 rounds.

Anyway, what I want to say is that I don't see how Fury can beat Povetkin and look good in doing so; any Fury victory will be either a controversial decision or Povetkin will be tagged as too old.

I still favour Povetkin to KO Fury within 7 rounds. Povetkin's been there and done that, a complete and successful career, nothing to lose, more experienced and skilled, ice cold following his gameplan, ruthless as always, one of the few who really have "style". High risk low reward for Fury. Besides, Fury looked terrible in his last fights. Absolutely outclassed by Pulev, who I rate lower than Povetkin and terribly boring and weak performance against an inactive and overweighted Samuel Peter.

 

Can 40y old Povetkin take the monstrous, Wilder-level right hand Hughie landed on Pulev in the eight round? Timestamped.
