    how about this one??

briscoe is one of the (perhaps even THE) best middleweight who never won a belt vs a guy who was once voted by ring magazine to be the worst middleweight champ of all time.

    so who wins????

I don't know about being the worst but he certainly was the most boring. I rolled my eyes at this matchup until I sat and thought about it and realized, yeah, Corro has a chance. That safety first, jab, grab, slow the fight down to nothing (I'm yawning just thinking about it) against Bennie's somewhat plodding style could definitely work to Corro's advantage. It was working against Vito until Antuofermo grabbed the bull by the horns in the last third of the fight and just beat Corro down with a maniacal workrate. Corro didn't engage or counter under the fusilade, he just covered up, ducked or took the blows. Bennie would have to work his way inside with that ripping jab of his, then just beat down Corro to the body. But styles make fights and this could be a bad match for Bennie. I wouldn't take the fight if I was managing him. Bad style and would likely stink out the joint, like most of Corro's fights.

I agree, Corro wasn't the worst middleweight, in fact he was pretty darned good IMO. He had a less than pleasing style, but people are so prejudiced against a boxer of that type of style. He may have been boring, boring does NOT = "BAD". I don't know if he would have beaten Bennie, but I just had to say a word in defense of Hugo Corro. Maybe it's a deficiency in me to appreciate his type of style, boxing is a many facted sport, with many different styles, some exciting and entertaining, like Gatti, for instance, and then there are more cerebral boxer types, who win through their defensive prowess. He didn't have his heart in his title defense against Antuofermo, and I feel that if he did, he would have beaten Vito.

Whoever voted that way has no real knowledge of boxing at all.

The peopleat Ring have a lot to learn. Corro was far from the worst. Corro shouldn't have a problem with Briscoe.

People like to make excuses for Rodrigo Valdez losses to corro, yeah he wasnt at his absolute best but Valdez never suffered terrible beatings to make himself shot. He lost two close fights to monzon and whooped briscoe 3 times.

yes, im totally with you guys on this.

i would have never called corro the worst champ at middleweight..........HELL NO!!

that was ring magazine a long time ago.

and i also think he was damm good. and like most pointed out, styles make fights.
and corros style was all wrong for bennie.

i pick corro by a clear UD.

Corro almost effortlessly beat Valdez in their rematch, and although Valdez was nearly shot, Corro can't be faulted for an excellent display of defensive boxing. I've always liked fighters like that. I'm beginning to think that Corro even beats Briscoe, and remember, that sytles make fights. An interesting fight would have been Corro vs Griffith.

Corro wasn't a talented technical boxer imo. he was just a basic safety first technically sound fighter, with no real notable attributes.

Ronnie Harris should have defeated him, but choked badly.Corro still struggled immensely and made for one of the worst middleweight bouts ever.Right next to his appalling performance against Vito.

Corro didn't have the offense or speed to keep Briscoe away.He would make Bennie look bad for a while and then be overwhelmed and outworked.
