Like Martinez, suffered an early career stoppage, learnt lessons and got to the top, beating a blunted Valdez (x2) and Ronnie Harris with Boxing Skills were good diplays, took a prime Antefermo, sticking to him like glue, to beat him by split decision. Like Martinez, not one of the wildest bulls of the Pampas, but perhaps one of the Wiliest Cats

Martinez Vs Curro Hmmmm... do you go for Hugo ....Or do you have the Urge for Serge ?

He actually enjoyed training, and quit after losing the title because he said the training process was no longer a joy to him. Did successfully defend against the widely avoided Ronnie Harris. Immediately after his draw with Hagler, Antuofermo emphatically stated in mid ring that he would rather fight Marv again than defend against Corro in a rematch. Corro may have been an unusually dull and colorless champion, but that doesn't speak to his level of quality as a boxer.

I thought Hugo Corr beat Vito.....

His victories over the favored Rodrigo Valdez were 'master-pieces.'

Wow!! I'm not the only one in the forum that thinks that after all! I thought Corro could have easily beaten Vito..maybe not easily, but definitely beaten him...an underrated guy...a safety first fighter of Argentina's "Mendoza School"..he wasn't terribly popular in his native Argentina because of his bloodless sort of defensive style but I've always been a fan of good boxing. Love the second Valdez fight..even though Rodrigo was past it, Corro put on such a neat display of boxing.

Corro, at his very best, was capable of beating Martinez, IMo.

I think the Valdez of 1973/74 beats Corro but Corro is definately an underrated fighter. Part of Valdez problem against both Monzon and Corro, aside from being past his best, was the fact that he was so easy to draw into a gunfight. If he stuck to his boxing skills and counter punching he was as tough to beat as anyone, particularly with the heavy leather he could throw and his durability. But when Monzon and Corro got him to go on the attack and then started boxing him, they really limited his ability. Thats my biggest problem with Valdez, he didnt stick to a gameplan very well.

A very good analysis klompton. Monzon took his measure when Rocky was at his best...both times...and Corro, as much as I liked him, was lucky to face a depleted Valdez.

Valdez was not at his best when he fought Monzon. He was in a bad car accident in late 1975 which mangled his right hand. It was expected he would never fight again. Instead he fought a soft touch in Cohen as a tuneup to see how his hand was doing and Cohen quit the instant he started landing bombs. His next fight was Monzon. While in training camp, less than a week before the fight Valdez heard that his brother had been killed and wanted to call the fight off but was compelled to go through with it. He turned a very sub par performance, looking like he was sleep walking which was uncharacteristic of him. I think basically from the time of his accident on he was not the same. He fought a good fight against Monzon in the second bout but I still dont think he was prime, and his next fight with Briscoe (who was also over the hill) was a lot more difficult than it should have been. The same Valdez who fought Briscoe in a hellacious 12 rounds in New Caledonia beats Corro and maybe Monzon (although I admit that stylistically Monzon would always give Valdez problems, and vice versa for that matter).

Monzon was also past his prime during the fights with Valdez.

I just don't think Valdez would've fared very well against certain types, namely the guys who made him lead. He was a very good counter-puncher, a strong guy and had brutal punching power. He had rather leaden feet, though and wasn't the best at consistently pressing the fight, least of which against the Corro type of safety first pure boxers.

He'd have fared very well against the punchers, the pressure fighters, and most of the boxxer-punchers the MW division has had to offer I believe.

If he gets the rightful decision over Vito Antuofuermo.
Does he give Vito a rematch,,,,,,,,,,,or to Las Vegas for Marvin Hagler.

I'm not a Corro expert. I've only seen 5 minutes vs Valdez. He seems very slick and crafty. I'm interested in opinions how he'd have fared against Hagler? Could he have got in Marv's head a bit? My educated guess would be that Marv had much better feet than Valdez, and Corro did not have enough power to keep Marv from boring in on him. Thoughts?

He would have folded meekly.the best thing about Corro was his haircut.
