A very good win for Garay. As the fight was in South America (Garay's hometown), the question will be whether or not it was a hometown decision.

Garay could have moved on with his career right after the Erdei fights (who many had him winning), but two problems arose:

    1) he failed to fight any significant contender post-Erdei.
    2) he lost by DQ to a journeyman, by losing his cool after a round.

The WBA belt redeems all sins however, and Garay is young enough to take advantage.

How did you see this fight?

Good for Garay, hopefully he doesn't sit on his belt like Erdei and fights some live opponents.

Very good news. He really deserves it after the Erdei fights.

Great news. He is better than Erdei what showed in their II fight. I'd like to see him against Dawson. I think Hugo has a chance. Garay is the man :bbb

Dawson has to fight Diaconu first and then a rematch with Johnson. :D

Lets hope he unifies with one of the other two beltholders soon.

Both fights were close, I don't have any real qualms with the verdicts even though I think Garay should have got the nod in the 1st fight.

Interesting, I think the first fight was a clear victory for the Hungarian. For 8 rounds that was a pretty one-sided affair, Garay could not land a clean punch. Erdei's stamina disappeared in the final rounds, that's why it was close in the end.

I had Garay winning the second one 115-113, but that was close as well, similar to Dawson-Johnson. Garay attacked more, Erdei landed more.

Garay is a very talented fighter, I think he would be able to hurt Dawson as well. I hope he does well in the future. He would have defeated Green too.

Garay was scheduled to fight Danny Green for the WBA belt until Green retired. How do you guys think that fight would have gone had it ended up happening ?

Garay is quicker than Green, he would have won a close fight (but who knows... in Australia perhaps he would have lost it).
