yeah that would be my thought. Gomez is a club fighter. If he's better than that, it's not by much. An A level fighter just walks right thru him like he's not even there, so take away about 60% of Castillo's skills and maybe it's a good scrap. ANd I would say JLC is about 40% of what he once was.

guys try to remember Morales vs David Diaz. Gomez could just tire a shot Castillo out here. Depends what kind of shape he is in.

I don't necessarily think the world of Gomez, but I also don't think much of the 2007 version of Hatton at 140.

If that version of Hatton at 140 can stop Castillo with a body shot, I don't see why the much bigger and stronger Gomez, coming off his career performance, can't do the same.

Also, stylistically, Gomez beat up Jesus Soto Karass in the aforementioned performance. Jesus Soto Karass is like Margarito Lite - and is a bigger, stronger, probably better welterweight pressure fighter than a blown up, mostly shot, 36 year old Temible.

It's much like how Gomez isn't necessarily good enough to have a win over Gatti on his record; and yet it's right there in black and white because of where in their careers they met up.

I'm not sure if prime Castillo would be effective at Welterweight regardless due to his lack of size, but the current version had nothing left in the Lujan fight other than his durability, and that was over a year ago.

Gomez will win, probably by wide decision, though a stoppage isn't out of the question. He's faster, bigger, and will just beat Castillo to the punch on the outside most of the fight.

I'm almost certain that the idea is to build towards Castillo vs Cotto with a Castillo win. I could see Gomez vs Margarito as an audible though.

No one is going to KO Diaz at 135.

Diaz is big at 135. He fought as high as 146. And Soto is not fast either.

Soto is actually one of the most overrated fighter in ESB. Lost all his major fights yet still higly regarded.

A toss-up fight and I will bet a lifetime ban that Soto won't KO Diaz.

No way that Soto will have connect rate of Pac in this fight or power of kendall holt at 140.

Plus Diaz is so fundamentally sound albeit slow. This guy has very good amateur record, with the following accomplishment :

    Won [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Golden_Gloves"]

[/ame] four times and the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Golden_Gloves"]

He represented US in olympics at light welterweight - which is 140, so he really is big.

soto by clear decision. diaz is too slow. the dude is tough but he can't beat soto. soto won't have the power to knock him out though. pac was hitting him at will and he didnt go down til the 9th. it's hard to imagine soto doing better than pac, even with this version of diaz.

Only Holt at LWW and Pac at lightweight have stopped Diaz.

I'm gonna pick diaz on this one. You all remember diaz was someone who was supposed to give pacquiao a close fight for 135 pounds. those who said so were supposed to be right except that they severely underestimated how good pacquiao really was.

Well in this case diaz should be someone who would give soto a hard fight and even beats him. unless i'm underestimating how good soto is

Gomez was embarrassing against Cotto. Why he is now having big name fights relative to the other contender stars, i just don't get.

oh and Soto should win this easy. Diaz is too nice a punching bag.

soto is good but i think he would struggle against bigger guys especially at 135. remember that the only guys to stop diaz are two big punchers in pac and holt and these two are proven light welter fighters. well, let's see if this added weight would benefit soto but i reserve my judgment. he was just gaining around 5-6 pounds when he was fighting at 130. while diaz even outweighed pac in their lightweight fight on fight night.

  12. So happy that Soto is getting this fight. It's huge for him. Hopefully he doesn't screw it up.

I agree with you on this bro....Soto is the better fighter technically but Diaz is tough! He'll make it a tough fight, but the skills will be the difference. Diaz gave Holt some problems with his relentless style until he got caught....I see Diaz doing better with Soto but looses the fight by decision.

This one is a guessing game anyways. Its hard to analyse because its hard to figure out exactly what level Castillo is on as of late, doesnt help much I havent seen Castillo's last few fights.
