Assuming he gets be Antillon tonight, and thats not a given, this guy deserves to headline with a big name. A fight with Marquez would be great. As of now, he is more deserving than Guerrero. Soto has never got the recognition he deserves. I think he is already past his best judging from his recent fights. Hes still a young guy, but hes got a lot of ring years on him. He deserves a money fight sooner than later and certainly more than a guy like Diaz or Malignaggi.
Soto is a very good veteran fighter, but the truth is he has had these chances against names and has lost against them. He looked very good at 130, but he hasnt looked very good at all at 135. He has not looked good in his last couple of fights. I would love to see him fight Guerrero before taking on JMM. 135 is simply not a good weight for Soto. I'd rather he stay at 130 and take on Chris John or the featherweight stars like Gamboa and Lopez.
I agree that he hasnt looked great lately and has struggled with some B fighters, but I think its more from ring wear than the weight. Hes only legitimately lost once in 8 years and that was to Joan Guzman, who is one of the most talented fighters in recent years imo. So, he hasnt blown his chances, he just hasnt really had them. I dont know why that is, lack of fanbase, bad promotion/management maybe.
I think he should fight acosta then unify with marquez or fight katsidis. Good coin for him and recognition he needs with the mainstream.
