Humberto Soto wants Morales, Barrera, Marquez

Tijuana, BC . - The heart of what is the strongest phase of his training, sparring sessions at a fast pace and fighting and controlling weight, Humberto "Zorrita" Soto Tijuana prepares for what will be the second defense of his Lightweight Championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC) against Colombian challenger Fidel Monterrosa.

The fight will happen at the Stadium Dorados de Culiacan, and the date was confirmed for Saturday, September 18. "Zorrita" has not neglect any detail in the gym, while his trainer Romulo Quirarte Jr., is defining tactics and strategy.

Soto (52-7-2, 32 KOs) and Monterrosa (23-1-0, 18 KOs) headline an attractive card to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico, however, the world champion will even be prepared to fight against the crowd.

"The fight is in Culiacan and I'm returning from defeating a fighter from Culiacan, Ricardo 'Pelon' Dominguez, and there is also rivalry between Culiacán and Los Mochis, where I am from. We've been very strong in sports, so it is quite possible that the public will be against me, but that does not bother me.

For "Zorrita" his opponent, Fidel Monterrosa is a challenger who should be taken seriously.

"He's a younger rival at 22 years of age, quick, has a great record and won his last four fights by knockout and apparently is bigger than me," established 'Zorrita', adding: "He will rise the ring with the hunger to be a world champion and is going to have the best preparation of his career, but I also I have to write my own story. I have a lot of plans but all them depend on my victory on the 18th, and we are going step by step, fight by fight, and for the moment all my focus is on Monterrosa. "

In the gym "Zorrita" Soto has sparred with Pavel Miranda, Alejandro "Mantequita" Rubio, Marvin Quintero and world number one ranked Juan Carlos Burgos.

Also on the card, Jorge "Travieso" Arce will take part in a Super Bantamweight title elimination bout, backed by the WBO, with Venezuelan Lorenzo Parra as the opponent. And complementing the evening will be a rematch between the "son of a legend, Omar Chavez, who will face Rodrigo Juarez of Tijuana.

Humberto Soto wants Maidana in December, but will probably have to wait his turn

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto (56-7-2, 33 KO’s) is hoping to get a title shot against WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (31-2, 28 KO’s) in December. However, Maidana isn’t committed to making that fight with Soto in December. Maidana wants a big money fight or at least one that pays good.
Soto isn’t the big name that Maidana is looking for. Maidana wants a rematch with Erik Morales, who Maidana defeated last April by a 12 round decision. However, Morales is now the WBC welterweight champion and is looking for a soft touch in his first defense of his title in December. Maidana isn’t in Morales’ plans for December. This leaves Soto or whoever else can be dug up for Maidana to fight if he doesn’t want to fight the 31-year-old Soto. ...

#fullpost{display:inline;}After the controversial disqualification by referee Joe Cortez, during a bout against Lorenzo for the interim WBC Jr. Lighteweight Championship title belt, Univision asked Humberto Soto about Manny Pacquiao. Soto said:

"Well, I think he's a great fighter, but he hasn't faced a fighter who can stand toe to toe with him like me."

:Dtell Arum to pay Soto the $1 million in back pay, so that Soto could fight any Top Rank fighter.

    from ESPN:

Lightweight titleholder Humberto Soto, claiming he is owed more than $1 million by Top Rank and that his promotional agreement with the company is expired, has declared himself a free agent, attorney and co-manager Michael Miller told ESPN.com.

until Top Rank pays Soto, Soto wont fight Antillon, Rios or any Top Rank fighter cause they owe him $1 million.

    you're right 100%.

He does need a better manager like Frank Espinoza, Cameron Dunkin, Shelly Finkel, to get better fights, cause the manager he has (Antonio Lozada) cant take him that much far in his career.
